My songs are the distillation of my human experience. The music is of the heart, the mind and the hands. I celebrate the futility and embrace the bittersweet. I laugh through the tears and sing with my American voice.

Lyrics

Virginia

Written By: Thomas Fout

Her name was Virginia
She hailed from southern Georgia
I met her in a pool hall in northern California
Like me she was a stoner
Said she used to be a loner
Till she met up with her old man who turned out to be the owner
Sometimes he'd be gone for days
Sometimes I'd be the only loser in the place
We'd sit there at the bar and just stare off into space
No need to talk
When you know someone so well
Every now and again
When she needed a friend
I'd hear her tires on the gravel
And I'd invite her in
Like me she was a lover
Looking for another
To deal with all of the darkest truths and keep them undercover
Sometimes she'd be gone for days
Sometimes I'd feel so blue and empty at my place
I'd drive down to the pool hall
Just to see her face
No need to talk
When you know someone so well
One night I walked in and looked around
Ginny was not behind the bar she was nowhere to be found
If I were a wise man I probably wouldn't care
But I got me a ticket for Atlanta and I guess I'll head on south from there
I'm going down to Georgia
To try and find Virginia...

Bricks And Mortar And Ivy

Written By: Thomas Fout

Go ahead and build your wall
Build it up 10 feet tall
Bricks and mortar and ivy
Design a world of isolation
A lonely little destination
Deny my every invitation politely
But I believe that I'm the man
And in time I think you'll see
That I might be
And it will all fall down
Your great wall will fall down
Go ahead and shed your skin
Blame it on your evil twin
She was the one who was lying beside me
She was dizzy with seduction
So now you're busy with construction
Bricks and mortar and ivy
So now we're both a bit confused
But in time I think you'll find
That you like me
And it will all fall down
Your great wall will fall down

Jaded

Written By: Thomas Fout

Jaded
Worn and faded like a pebble on the beach
Was my heart
Out of reach to even me
And the waves were crashing down
As the tide was rolling out
The sands of time are slipping through the hourglass of our lives
Broken
Left unspoken but known by everyone around
That my heart was down and out to sea
And the waves came high and swift
I was buried in the drift
The sands of time are slipping through the hourglass of our lives
I'd long since given up
I'd taken my last breath of love
Caught in the shifting sands
When I felt your hands from up above
Pulling me near you...

My current set list allows for 2x45 minute sets. Or one set of 60-90 minutes. I play 90% originals with a few obscure pop chestnuts thrown in for laughs.
