"Splendid E-Zine"

"Those Who Wait specialize in a type of enlightened anthemic drone, intensely crunchy and focused like white heat but also gloriously transcendent. Those Who Wait are a smart band -- smart enough to push different buttons than the screamo acts and arena rock-instrumentalists they're perched between. Diversity is a good thing."
- Justin Kownacki

Bio

Using all its musical resources -- intelligent writing, superb musicianship, and skillful self-production -- Those Who Wait comes roaring into the music world with a debut album that is equal parts dark, lovely, introspective indie rock and mathy, catchy mayhem. With hints of the melodic rock stylings of Sunny Day Real Estate and Jimmy Eat World, the textures of experimental rock (ala Radiohead and Wilco), the undertones of what one reviewer labeled, “atmospherically fantastical, scary movie-ish darkness”, and a heaviness that has been likened alternately to Hum, Shiner, Cave-in, and Coheed and Cambria, Those Who Wait’s self-titled release offers not only pop sensibility (as the first single “Solitarily Yours” will surely prove), but explores the many different faces of this Boston trio.

It all began in 2001 with the meeting of singer/songwriter, Michael "Whit" Whitaker, and bassist, Dave Sheaffer, at Berklee College of Music. The two joined forces with drummer Mark Pozzo in 2002. The members’ musical backgrounds were diverse – Dave had recorded and toured Europe with Grindcore dazzlers Virulence (Morbid Records); Whit recorded and toured with Escapist, a group consisting of himself and four former members of the renowned hardcore group Drowningman (Revelation Records); and Mark was backline for a handful of locally successful Boston jazz and hardcore outfits.

Audiences quickly took notice. After posting their first demo on Mp3.com, all 3 songs shot to the Top 10 Alternative Rock list for the Boston area. The song “My Voice Broke” held the number one position the entire summer of 2002. In early 2003, “Solitarily Yours” was picked to be featured on a Heavy Rotation Records compilation alongside other up and coming Boston bands such as Apollo Sunshine (SpinArt Records).

Over the last two years Those Who Wait has taken their intensely energetic, sonically impressive live performance to some of the most legitimate rock venues throughout the East coast, Midwest, and Canada. They have shared the stage with a number of great and diverse national acts - Silent Drive (Equal Vision Records), Lovedrug (The Militia Group), The Lot Six (Tarantulas Records), Orange Island (Triple Crown Records), and The Mercury Program (Tiger Style Records), just to name a few.

So far, it has been a time of experimentation and exploration for Those Who Wait, as well as a time of possibilities being realized and opportunities grasped. Their long-awaited debut album, released on June 1st 2004, embodies the sound of a unique band, gazing towards a unique future.
