"Tied to Machines at KnockanStockan 2013 – Review and Photos"

Tied to Machines – KnockanStockan 2013 – July 26th, 2013

As Tied to Machines take the stage in front of a handful of audience members they begin their set in a blaze of light that filled the circus-style Dimestore Tent stage. The band begin to get into the zone and soon enough more and more festival goers start to fill up the tent having heard the tunes from the other fields and the buzz in the air starts to increase. Lights pulsed and ribs trembled in time to the heavy bass rhythm played by both the bassist and drummer and audience members soon were head banging along to the beat. Although the set had begun with a few watchers that seemed shy to come even close to the stage as Tied to Machines got through more of their songs the audience members by the end of the set were up against the barricade and bopping along to the beat. A band’s performance that grew in momentum and energy as they played, by the end the festival goers were in rock punk ecstasy.

"Radar Presents Pocket Billiards – 20th September 2012 (REVIEW OF MAIN SUPPORT)"

Before their set I managed to chat with Ed from Tied to Machines, it was great to get an insight to the guys and their music. With the release of their second EP in August their sound is evolving and is mind blowing to your ears. Ed told me how he himself had studied at Queens and reckoned he had been present at around 100 radar gigs. The fact that his band was going to perform here on the very stage where he had seen some “insane bands” play was not lost on him. The crowd was building and he was looking forward to a great show. The fact that he was playing Radar had filled him with butterflies, he explained though that he needed that rush of adrenaline to be able to perform with the energy that he does. He was looking forward to converting some folks in the audience and he also told me of the bands hopes to tour Europe in the near future explaining that bands of their genre find it difficult to crack the UK market whereas in Europe the punk scene were more open. I couldn’t wait to see that energy that Ed had been talking about and he didn’t let me down. They bounced from the minute they got onstage. Opening with ‘Otamendi’, then swiftly into ‘Kid Icarus,’ I could actually feel the floor bounce beneath my feet. The guys were truly mental on stage. Ed announced two songs in that he was wrecked, which didn’t surprise me in the slightest. He had a quick chat with the fresher’s before playing ‘No Worries’ and ‘Pigs’ from their new EP. They blasted into ‘S is for Salamander’ (by ASIWYFA), then ‘Sociopath’ by now the crowd were as mental as the band themselves. A quick last word from Ed about Pocket Billiards and then the last song ‘Wookie’, a hard and fast song to make sure the audience wouldn’t forget them. We had members of the band crowd surfing to finish off. An amazing show from start to finish left me wanting more and looking forward to blasting their EP on the long drive home. - Chordblossom

Bio

Tied To Machines; A Banbridge band formed from the remnants of maniacal, repetitive practice and a shared loathing for the classic rock scene they were forced to endure; Edd Henry, Connor Gribbon, Josh and Jordan Davies came together to escape the monotonous boredom of their hometown. They initially played punk covers however they quickly incorporated more complex original material into their sets. Since then the band have been gigging steadily throughout the North, to positive reviews.
As the band have gained more experience their sound has evolved and the band have been likened to acts such as The Bronx, Refused and Nirvana. Their first E.P garnered positive reviews from unlikely sources including GigApe, HotPress and ihouseu. The relative success of the record has seen the band headline shows across the North and support Punk Rock veterans the UK Subs.
They recently finished work on their second record “Carla”, again, with Rocky O’Reilly (Oppenheimer) in Start Together Studios, Belfast. Since its Irish release the record has received regular national radio play, seen the band play to an increasing audience and garnered attention from UK and European Record Labels. On BBC Radio 1 Introducing, track Balotelli was named “Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record in Another World”.
Influences: Refused, At The Drive In, The Bronx, The Ghost of A Thousand, ASIWYFA, Biffy Clyro, FUGAZI, Nirvana.
