In early 2011, two UW graduate students decided to write a song about economics for their department talent show. Dan Jones composed a happy, catchy little tune on the guitar, while Naomi Botkin worked out how to rhyme with externalities. The immediate result was Tigers in the Tank's first single, Living Economically. The more permanent outcome was a solidified songwriting partnership. Tigers in the Tank has since matured into a six-piece codependency based on a common love for the energy of the stage. The band has a knack for combining the slightly quirky - lyrics in French, melodica and banjo cameos, anime references, and did we mention that our first single was about economics? - with an organic indie rock sound characteristic of Seattle.
