Bio
Tiger Waves know the tyranny of distance, and they have tried, as best they may, to tame it for their purposes. In 2011, the foundation was laid online between two songwriters—James Marshall in Austin, Reid Comstock in Chicago. Accordingly, Tiger Waves is a band born of dropboxes, email attachments and CD-Rs and with the two principal songwriters living 1,000 miles apart, it isn’t surprising that the music takes on the expanses of the information highway during it’s travels back and forth between the city of Big Shoulders and the Live Music Capital of the World. Their mutual love for the Beach Boys, Phil Spector, Radiohead, Grizzly Bear, etc. engenders the cosmic beach-flavored zeitgeist that defines their sound.
After Reid relocating to Austin, the pair combined forces with a cadre of fellow musicians and songwriters: Tyler Wharen (guitars, tack piano, melodica), Kevin Brown (bass duties), PJ Theberge (guitars and keys) and Josh Brown (drum skins). Although unsigned, Tiger Waves has made quite a splash in the blogosphere. Named one of the top new bands of 2011 by Rollo & Grady and opening for a slew of well-known artists (e.g. Olivia Tremor Control, Youth Lagoon, Gardens & Villa), Tiger Waves have established themselves as a band on the rise.
