Bio

Tim Griffin and The Instruments is a North Queensland based Blues and Roots band. Performing both a mix of covers and originals the debut of this band has caused much excitement through the Australian Blues and Roots scene.

Lead singer Tim Griffin has an impressive music history behind him. In 2013 he won the Memphis blues challenge in Brisbane which gave him the right to represent Queensland at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis USA. His quarter final result there placed him in the top 100 unsigned blues artists in the world. Tim then travelled to New Orleans and performed several shows on Bourbon St. He released his first album ‘Castle Hill Blues’ on his return to Australia and went on to tour nationally to promote the album.

In 2014 he began writing for his second album ‘Shake Ya Hoodoo’ due for release on the 30th of January 2016.

The project, which finds the 2013 Memphis Blues challenge winner turning away from his original solo album style and working with a new band format, lives up to its title by putting the singer/songwriter at the head of a brand new musical direction.

Recorded with a powerhouse band that includes Trombone legend Sarah Morrow (currently musical director for Dr John and formerly Trombone player for Ray Charles) and Keyboard Player Michael Caruana (Melbourne Ska Orchestra). The album also features Chris Filmore (Slide Guitar, Austria), Kelly Auty (Vocals, Melbourne), Michael Walker (Harmonica, Rockhampton), Band Blues Mountain (Melbourne), Jarrah Jones (Guitar, Townsville), Kendal Daines (Vocals, Townsville.

The album truly is an international affair having been recorded in New Orleans, Vienna, Melbourne and Rockhampton.

The album is a solid mix of blues, gospel and rock having a powerhouse sound from start to finish.

‘Shake Ya Hoodoo’has been mixed, mastered and engineered by Michael Letho of Michael Letho Productions in Melbourne. The album was produced by Tim Griffin.

Tim has supported Tim Friedman, Jeff Martin, The Black Sorrows, Russell Morris , James Reyne, Blue King Brown, Mark Seymour and Andrew Strong and the commitments to name a few and is kept busy playing nationally all year round.

The band is backed up by an impressive line up of musicians including Joel Sutton (formerly drummer for James Reyne and the Bondi Cigars), Steve Payton (formerly bassist for John Williamson), Jarrah Jones on Guitar, Claire Whitcombe on Keyboard and Kath Payton on Fiddle.
