Biography

Lead by the intricate guitar work and age-less voice of Nye Stewart, and backed by the rollicking percussion of brother Abe; TiMBAH’s nucleus inspires all. Rivalling many folk frenzies’ among us, TiMBAH would not be complete without their remaining dedicated ensemble; jamming on anything from fiddle to harmonica, electric guitar, bass, keyboard, clarinet or melodica.
Emerging from the low end, steadfast and smooth, comes Nick Warren on the Bass radiating spicy and electrifying grooves.
Bursting from the seams the exceptionally talented Nicholas ‘springy’ Springall emits a unique phalanges’ dance on keyboard.
While the poignant, yet energetic violin, poking jovially between riffs by Christopher Gillespie enhances every song.
With their roots spanning the east coast of Australia from Tasmania through to Queensland, TiMBAH’s music influences span an even greater divide. Inspirations such as their idol and favourite; Dave Matthews Band, to the John Butler Trio, The Beatles, Colin Hay and Django Reinhart, denotes the production of TiMBAH’s distinctive eclectic tunes. Putting on a performance for young & old, energetic & passive, dancers & listeners alike, TiMBAH display incredible musicianship and engaging stage presence, leaving a feeling of elation no audience member can deny.
TiMBAH are a uniquely gifted and charismatic collective. Their Folk-Rock masterpiece flirts with elements of Gypsy swing, Jazz, Blues and Roots. Bounding between genres with creative poise and diversifying musicianship this band will continue to pave the path to musical greatness.

Striving to encourage positive influence in their community, TiMBAH has developed a family of open hearted and dedicated followers. Percussionist; Abe Stewart contributes abundantly to the live music scene playing with local bands; Beats Working, DJs, Tabla player; Deeraj, Ofa(Chocolate Strings) and Jeoff Turnbull while also throwing his creative ingenuity into JAM, Australia. Fronting professional groups outside TiMBAH, including Nightillion & 13-piece orchestral projects; Chris Gillespie sparks the Brisbane scene frequently with his assorted guitar and violin reverberation. Not only creating TiMBAH’s unique resonance, Bassist; Nick Warren, expands on his reputation as ‘Tasmania’s musical mastermind’ through his regular participation in recording workshops and album productions for an array of local musicians. Finally, TiMBAH’s youngest prodigy; Nicholas Springall, permeates the Brisbane art world with his jazzy skills in theatre sound projects at Ipswich Civic Centre and his solo recordings. Lyrics

Deceit

Written By: Nye Stewart

Headin down to the courthouse
Headin down by the way
Headin down to the courthouse
Tail between my legs.

Went to see a man about a dollar
Went to see a man about a day
Drivin trucks to the border
Come home collect my pay

It went alright for a few days
Pretty good for a month
Then the road block and sirens
Were there to pick me up

I don’t know what’s back there
I just drive me a truck
Then they opened the tailgate
And I was out of luck.

Now I got me a record
Now I got me a bunk
Iron bars and a window
They gone and locked me up

That fella got me in here
That fella gave me a job
Shippin dope to New South Wales
In a lousy two tonne truck

He won’t know what hit him
He won’t look so smug
That house of his on fire
Underground in a wooden trunk.

Headin down to the courthouse
Headin down by the way
Headin down to the courthouse
Tail between my legs.

Went to see a man about a dollar
Went to see a man about a day
Drivin trucks to the border
Come home collect my pay

That fella got me in here
That fella gave me a job
Shippin dope to New South Wales
In a lousy two tonne truck

He won’t know what hit him
He won’t look so smug
That house of his on fire
Underground in a wooden trunk.
