"Go, Fightin’ Farmers!"

February 15, 2007

Go, Fightin’ Farmers!

I write this as a proud former resident of Farmersville, Texas: Today, Country Music Television announced that among the 64 finalists for its online “Music City Madness” video contest, one of the lucky few left is Farmersville’s own Tim Cooper. The competition’s being presented March Madness-style, complete with brackets. Just go here, watch the two videos in each first-round bracket, then vote for your fave.

Cooper, a big ol’ goofy dude whose video for the fiddlin’-around “Think Like a Woman” earns its chuckles, is competing in the first round against Danny Hamilton’s slicker “Smoother Than You,” which I kinda can’t stand. Then again, Hamilton ain’t no Farmersville Farmer. Cooper, whose Web site and MySpace page indicate he’s clearly got a good career in the making, has my vote. How about givin’ him yers. After all, the winner gets an all-expenses- paid trip to Nashville to record an episode of CMT’s online performance series Studio 330 Sessions. Aw, c’mon, CMT — how about something on real TV. –Robert Wilonsky

"Tim Cooper featured in the Music City Madness video contest on CMT.com"

By Erin Rice

Got an e-mail from Tim Cooper, local country music artist, about a video contest he is currently in. The name of the contest is Music City Madness, hosted by CMT.com. Country music artists from all over the U.S. submitted music videos for their songs and CMT went through them all to find the top 64 to pit head-to-head-to-head-to-head-to... well you get the idea, in an NCAA playoff-esque bracket of country music video champions and losers. Speaking of the losers, they get nothing. But the winner, well, the winner gets a trip to Nashville, Tennessee where he/she will be given the "opportunity to record a performance of the winning submitted video at CMT's Studio 330 Sessions."

Tim's video for "Think Like a Woman" beat out over 2000 other submissions to make it to the first round of voting. Now that's where the fans come in, is the voting. If you go to CMT.com now and click on the Music City Madness link you will be taken to the bracket. Tim Cooper is in the upper left quadrant, and for appearances, is pitted against some guy not from Dallas/Fort Worth, who, for all intents and purposes will be known as a "future loser." Anyway, the first round of voting ends on February 26, from whence the bottom half of the bracket, as far as compiled votes is concerned, will get kicked to the curb and a new round of voting will ensue. Fans can vote as many times as they wish provided they are voting during the correct round (duh).

Tim's on the road currently, but I was able to catch up with him briefly to chat about the contest and his tour. I also took the opportunity ask him about a few other issues, including some money he owes us and the intriguing album cover for his latest self-titled CD. To be fair, he was a good sport when asked some of the more ridiculous questions. That still doesn't let him off the hook for the $1.14. If you listen to the full three and a half minute interview you will know what this is referring to.

Listen to the interview by clicking here.

In either case, best of luck to one of Dallas/Fort Worth's own. It's about time someone put Texas on the map for its country music. Oh wait.
