Biography

Tim started playing guitar at age 13 and enjoys performing and composing an array of genres ranging from blues to classical, rock and roll to jazz. Growing up, he played in with a number of groups. He is an accomplished lead guitarist. In North Carolina he was the lead guitarist for several bands, and they played gigs at many different venues and music festivals around the state. In 2002, he received his bachelor’s degree in jazz performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. While he was in school he played and collaborated with some of the best players in the area. Since graduation, he has lived in Austin, TX, where he has been performing and teaching guitar for the past 3 years.
Stylistically, Tim’s music is best defined as Tim’s music. His influences range from Tom Waits to Bill Frissell to Leo Kottke. Because of his background in jazz, he is a skilled improviser, and his repertoire includes the sounds of jazz and flamenco, as well as R&B and funk. His playing demonstrates his knowledge of and familiarity with a wide variety of musical genres.
The Tim Doyle Group has many faces and instrumentation. Tim can be seen playing with any combination of guitars, bass players, drummers, percussionists, and horns. Tim’s main goal as a musician stems from his love and passion for the art form. He is dedicated to writing and performing creative, innovative, original music while continuing to learn and grow as a musician.
