"Time Columns - Sunriseinthesea"

These guys are absolute geniuses. In 5 tracks (4 seasons and a floral one), they will blow you away with their groovy, yet complex, sound. Sure, do they sound a little bit like the instrumental version of Maps & Atlases at some point? Yeah, but they develop it into a psychedelic sound of their own; a sound that is truly 100% unique. At some points, just absolute rhythmic clutter reminiscent of 65daysofstatic. At other points, such clarity and bliss. Favorite track was “Summer”.

Rating: 5/5 powder kegs. I can’t honestly describe this. Maybe later on I’ll rewrite this, adding more detail and such, but for right now, hearing is believing. I never would have thought anything this good could come from 2 people. - Is This Revolutionary?

"Time Columns - Sunriseinthesea"

"[Time Columns] has a fascination with looping guitar riffs on top of each other to create these thick sonic textures, (they thank the Gibson Echoplex- digital looper for that) When you add live hip-hop drums and pre-recorded samples that are spot on and tight, you get these complex rhythms/melodies that take over your years" - Boom Boom Chik

"Math's Beautiful Sister"

"Baltimore-based band Time Columns...are the newest example of the genius that unfolds when progressive post-rock mates with tight instrumentation and calculated electronica...tapping into influences from notable post-rock staples such as Battles and Explosions in the Sky. They have been performing as Time Columns since early 2009, and have performed live all over the East Coast. Their EP, Sunriseinthesea, is the most brilliant thing I've listened to in the last couple years. Apparently there is hope for modern rock music..."

"Old But Important - Time Columns (Sunriseinthesea EP)"

"Time Column`s debut, the 5-track Sunriseinthesea EP has already been looping at the non-stop regime for some hours in my headphones, and indeed, as for the whole set the better sorts of scents are brought forth after every following listen time. Two guys - Kenny Eaton and Jordan Miller - coming from Baltimore, Maryland, USA, exploiting guitars, keyboards, drums, and effect-sustained devices (moreover, Gibson Echoplex can be suggested as their third member) to conjure a mix of fusion/jazz rock, post-rock, math-rock, and classically layered progressive rock sound. No doubt, their interplay is an instrumental rock-relied synergic reflection, which does search for diverse chord compounds and complex, cadence-based realms, sometimes being "stuck" in restraint runs and even introspective hoverings, the another time, yet, blown up into the acceleration of synth-infused guitar grimaces, acquiring lots of panoramic flashlights to be brightened up and broadened into near-epic glider trips." - Recent Music Heroes

"Time Columns - Sunrise in the Sea"

"All the way instrumental with an epic grip of muscular riffs and pedals...The end result here is more an an atypical rhythmic structures or an irregular shape of sound. Brilliant EP that everyone should get." - The Siren's Sound

Bio

Baltimore's instrumental math rock duo Time Columns combines the radical elements of live looping and tight instrumentation with elements of post-rock, hip-hop and progressive rock. Tapping into influences from contemporaries like Battles, Explosions in the Sky and Don Caballero, the band creates music that is uniquely their own. Performing since early 2009, Time Columns has shared the stage with industry heavyweights like STATE RADIO and FOREVER THE SICKEST KIDS.

Central to the group's existence is the Gibson Echoplex- a digital looper that allows keyboard and guitar lines to be played back and overdubbed on the fly. When used in a live setting, it creates the illusion of many performers playing simultaneously and smashes what previous limits had been placed on the two-man band format.

Following two successful East Coast tours in 2009-2010, Time Columns released their debut EP, Sunriseinthesea, following their signing to Mystery Ton Records. The five tracks on the EP marked a turning point in "modern" rock, expanding on the rhythmic foundations of Battles but emphasizing the need for melody and dynamic pacing reminiscent of the post-rock genre.

Time Columns toured again in 2011, spanning half the nation from New York City and the east coast out to Chicago and the midwest. Along with the many shows on the tour, the band frequented radio stations to promote, performing live on several stations including National Public Radio, WDIY in PA.

"This band is gaining a lot of momentum in the Baltimore/DC experimental scene... I wouldn't be surprised if I read a Pitchfork article in the next year saying they signed to Warp Records." - JHU Newsletter
