Canal Days is going to make you rock hard, groove with the blues and tap your toes to Celtic favourites.

Music lovers attending the four-day marine heritage festival will get the party started at the market square concert stage Friday with TimeGiant and Bleaker Ridge opening for The Tea Party.

“The Tea Party has been around for years. As a kid growing up, it was a band I looked up to,” said TimeGiant drummer Charlie McKittrick. “They’re a legendary Canadian rock outfit.”

McKittrick said he looks forward to his band’s Canal Days gig.

“We’re really looking forward to getting out in front of so many people we haven’t had a chance to connect with before.”

TimeGiant is a Toronto-based band that’s been together for seven years.

The four-pice band also includes guitarist and vocalist Tyrone Buccione, lead guitarist Ryan Watson and bass player and vocalist Patrick Wilkin.

“The best way I can describe our sound is the way people describe it to us — classic rock.”

TimeGiants’ influences include Boston, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Toto and Queen.

Gates for Friday’s show open at 7 p.m. TimeGiant will take the stage at 8 p.m.

All concerts at the market square during Canal Days are open to all ages and free to the public.

"TimeGiant Set to Perform at 2013 Burly Calling Festival"

By Hilary Caton
It took seven years but the rock ‘n’ roll quartet that is TimeGiant will hit the stage at the 7th annual Burly Calling Christmas show for the first time.

The band’s drummer, Charlie McKittrick, couldn’t be more excited to get fresh exposure at such a “reputable festival.”

“I think it shows the growth of the band and its outreach to the not too distant markets of the GTA,” he said.

“It’s a good festival to be in. It’s just been getting bigger and better and we’re just very happy that we’re at a place where we can bring something worthy to the table.”

TimeGiant will be performing at the Boston Manor on Thursday, Dec. 5. at 8:55 p.m. as a part of the four-day festival that runs from Dec. 5-8. It will host more than 50 bands at various venues including Rude Native, the Queen’s Head, Joe Dog’s, Dickens and Boston Manor.

McKittrick joined the band just two years ago after meeting up with its other three members, which include lead vocalist and saxophonist Tyrone Buccione, rhythm guitarist Ryan Watson and bass guitarist Pat Wilken, in Toronto. All four members first met in Windsor.

“We all went to the University of Windsor together,” said McKittrick. “We were more or less just acquaintances at that point.”

McKittrick was already playing in a band at the time and would see TimeGiant around at different gigs. It wasn’t until 2011 when they were both in Toronto that McKittrick joined his old pals to become TimeGiant’s newest drummer.

Since the edition of McKittrick the band has put out two albums, its latest CD is entitled A Night to Remember. The band intends to play songs from the album when they perform Dec. 5.

TimeGiant has worked with the a handful of talented musicians and bands across North America including Theory of a Deadman, Marianas Trench and members of The Doors.

The band’s sound pulls from the nostalgic times of legendary rock groups such as KISS and Led Zeppelin and incorporates today’s rock music of The Darkness and the Sheepdogs, to bring a mix of old and new rock to the stage.

“It’s very high energy, lively sound that will leave you nothing short of feeling good,” said McKittrick.

“It’s our original take on what was the best period for music.”

"New Music Addiction - TimeGiant"

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Monster Truck and The Sheepdogs had a rock and roll baby together? Logistics and reality aside, that baby is here and it’s loud, it’s awesome, and its name is TimeGiant.

Working together as a true musical unit, Tyrone Buccione (Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar, Saxophone), Ryan Watson (Rhythm Guitar, Harmonica), Pat Wilken (Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals), Charlie McKittrick (Drums, Backing Vocals) scream, shred, pulse and pound. Classic rock, psychedelic, grunge, blues- you name it, TimeGiant’s got it. Their music is seventies era stadium rock in the making. It’s self-proclaimed sex on six strings and it will rock you to your very core.

Though the band was only formed a few years ago, they’ve crafted a sound that spans decades and blends different influences to achieve that always sought-after universal appeal. TimeGiant already has one self-titled EP and a full length album (Grow) under their belts, and are currently working on another record which is being produced by Canadian music veteran Greig Nori of Treble Charger fame. Catchy, real rock songs paired with a fun and high energy show make TimeGiant an up-and-coming, soon to be unstoppable musical force – these guys are definitely a band to watch.

Aside from being vastly talented, the boys from TimeGiant are just all around awesome people who truly love what they do and that shows both on and off stage. Check out my interview with the band and see why TimeGiant is my latest new music addiction.

"TimeGiant to play with U.S.S. at the Hamilton Spring Music Festival at The Underground"

Hamilton, The View, May 10th, 2012

Time Giant
Tyrone Buccione (vocals, lead guitar, sax) met Ryan Watson (rhythm guitar) met at the University of Windsor. The Ottawa and Erieau transplants respectively found a connection in a love for classic rock and formed the basis of a band to be called Time. They’d bring in Erieau’s Patrick Wilken (bass) and most recently, Hamilton’s Charlie McKittrick (drums) to round out the newest incarnation of the band now dubbed Time Giant. It’s a rather convoluted tale, but the back-story isn’t what Time Giant is about – it’s about rocking out.
“I started piano at the age of four but I didn’t take a fancy to music until the age of ten when I started taking drum lessons,” recalls Sir Allan McNab Secondary School grad Charlie McKittrick. “I played in a variety of ensembles and bands during my high school years — any I could get my hands on in fact, inside and outside of school — playing with the Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra for one season when I was 18. I ended up studying music at the University of Windsor.
“I was friends with Time Giant in Windsor – we met there,” says McKittrick who decided to use his Honours BA in Music degree to rock out and fill in on the drummer’s throne last September for the now Toronto based Time Giant. “I liked what they were doing so I wanted to join when their drummer left. The music speaks to me a lot louder than a lot of other music, certainly from a listening standpoint but especially from a performing perspective. It’s feel good music. The lyrics take you from where you’re at and get you to another place. It provides an escape to leave your troubles behind. It’s classic rock, even progressive rock. We get comparisons to Queen, Rush and things along those lines. We draw from a plethora of that era’s music.”
With a self-titled CDEP and a full-length dubbed Grow already available, Time Giant is joining the ranks of younger bands like the Sheep Dogs and more locally, Monster Truck, looking to music four-decades their senior for inspiration.
“It’s great to see bands like that garnering the attention I believe they so deserve,” smiles McKittrick. “Hopefully, that’ll inspire more people to look to this kind of music. We’re not just making good music; we believe we’re making great music. Whenever we write a song, one of the challenges we face is can it stand up to a riff by Led Zeppelin or Rush or any of the classics because that’s exactly what we’re trying to create.”
With a wealth of attention surrounding the band in hogtown — management, labels and more importantly fans are buzzing about the forthcoming new disc from the band tentatively set for release later this year. But McKittrick returns to his hometown with his new band in tow for the first time for a special Coalition Entertainment Showcase at this year’s Spring Music Festival and Time Giant is ready to wow the crowds with their heavy duty riff rock.
“We haven’t played Hamilton since I’ve been in the band so that’s why this show coming up on Saturday is so big for us,” notes McKittrick. “I hope people are ready to hold on to their hats because there is going to be a pretty big rock and roll storm in that place. It’s going to be one heck of an energetic show and one that won’t surely be forgotten anytime soon. We’re opening the show and we don’t take that responsibility lightly. It’s rock ‘em, sock ’em rock and roll and maybe everyone isn’t going to be ready for it but we’re going to leave them wanting more. We’ve gone over so well in so many other markets, and Hamilton has always had a strong appreciation for rock and roll – Steel City knows how to grind hard and rock out.”

Time Giant plays the Underground opening for USS, the Balconies and Live How You Live as part of the Spring Music Festiva; that runs from MAy 10 - 12. Doors are at 8pm and $17 gets you in at the door.

Bio

Can you remember the last time you witnessed a band unleash a raw and completely unapologetic dose of rock n roll on the unsuspecting masses? If your answer is yes, in all likelihood you've recently been introduced to TimeGiant. Their sound is sexy. Its bold. Its edgy. Its rock the way it should be.
In a musical climate that is dominated by the polar opposites of folksy artists and prefabricated pop stars, the milieu of good, old-fashioned rock music has gone largely underserviced. Armed with blistering guitars and booming vocals, with the release of its hotly anticipated sophomore album A Night To Remember, TimeGiant is clearly on a one-track mission to change that.

"It's straight up, no bullshit rock music. The sound that we bring is simple and bold," says frontman, Tyrone Buccione. "It's big harmonies, big vocals, big guitars. That's how we define originality - by bringing something back that we don't see anymore."
The journey towards TimeGiant began in 2006. While studying at university in Windsor, Ontario Buccione met guitarist Ryan Watson and the two began jamming together. Quickly the pair knew there was a creative spark growing that was about to change everything.
We would jam in the residence lobby with tiny 10-watt amplifiers and our guitars, laughs Watson. I remember, a friend picked up a copy of One Way Ticket by The Darkness on the day of its Canadian release, and after listening to the album we both had a feeling that music was about to become a way of life for us. From that point on, we began writing songs and recording them in the residence kitchen on a small 8-track, and that was it.
Tyrone and Ryan immediately enlisted the help of Ryan's former bandmate Pat Wilken who picked up the bass guitar to join the developing outfit, perfecting the early core trio of the band. A new dimension would emerge for the band in 2010, when they packed up and moved to Toronto where they would eventually join with drummer Charlie McKittrick in 2011. At that moment, it was clear that the four musicians had collectively found their equals and TimeGiant was fully formed.
Although I was a little reluctant initially, admits McKittrick, Eventually we jammed a few times, and it just felt so great! The energy of the music, the vibe, and attitude of the group really spoke volumes to me.

In between releasing a debut EP in 2009 and a full-length album, Grow, in 2011, the band began to tour relentlessly. "After our last EP there was a huge growing stage in our career. We had just moved to Toronto and had a lot to learn about ourselves as a band," explains Buccione. "We grew up listening to AC/DC, Queen, Led Zeppelin and KISS. These were larger than life bands, and we wanted to carve our place out by bringing back that huge sound. So everything we started to do became about capturing our live energy."

The fiery showmanship of their live performance quickly became the bands calling card, propelling them to share the stage with heavy hitters like Finger Eleven, The Tea Party and The Jason Bonham Led Zeppelin Experience.
Industry insiders and music fans alike immediately began to realize that the arrival of TimeGiant heralded a fresh new lifeline of unadulterated rock music that they had been clamoring for. It was this intensity that provided the impetus for the band to return to the studio in 2013 with a clear sense of purpose.
The hard work and grit that has propelled TimeGiant forward is evident in its newest effort. A Night To Remember harkens back to the heyday of bold rock music with clever nods to staple artists of the rock n roll cannon like AC/DC and Queen, but make no mistake -- this band is certainly no imitation of its predecessors.
"The music of TimeGiant makes me feel like I'm back in the 70s. It was during this period in music that my favourite songs of all time were written," says McKittrick. There is a strong nostalgic component at work. But rock music has always been about feeling good, being creative and having freedom of expression -- that is timeless. For me that is exactly what TimeGiant is all about.

Lead single I Am the Fire was born from a lightening bolt of inspiration and translates into a flash of delectable drama. It showcases a side of the band that was born to exist in the expanse of arena rock, nailing the huge sound of the bands live performance as it never has been able to capture in the past.

To help dial in this new direction, the band enlisted the help of critically acclaimed producers Jon Drew (Alexisonfire, Arkells, Matt Mays) and Greig Nori (Sum 41, Treble Charger, Marianas Trench). Both producers, with their reflexes for taking innate talent to a more refined level, have brought TimeGiant to a different place.
