Bio
I can say that my love of vocal harmonies started while listening to my mom's Jamaican Folk Singers albums as a kid. And my ear for catchy upbeat melodies originated with ABBA, Thriller, Rock n Roll Fever, a double compilation album of juke box classics from the 50's and 60's. I've been inspired by reggae, funk, hip-hop, heavy metal and dance music, but i love to rock, first and foremost. I want bodies to move, dammit!
Maybe that's why i've always been drawn to percussion. I've been involved in several percussion groups: I played kit drums in a dixieland band in highschool and taiko drums in Japan. I play caixa (snare), shakers and bells in a brasillian parade band called Samba Elégua (www.sambaelegua.com) and i've been a regular bongo/djembe drummer at the Drummers in Exile (www.drummersinexile.com) Tuesday evening drum circle - one of the largest of its kind in the world. I also accompany funk and dance DJs with my djembe, and regularly drum for hour-long yoga classes.
What sets me apart is that my songs engage the audience, get them listening, singing, clapping and moving. I want give them something they haven't heard before! Plus, my lyrics are and creative, clever and highlite relevant current topics like technology, corruption and The War on Terror.
