Bio

Over a lively 10 year career and plenty of noteworthy personal experiences, Tim Henry has come to specialize in deeply moving songs of love and liberation. Tim's material is reminiscent of other guitar-playing singer/songwriters such as Pete Murray, Dave Mathews, Bob Evans, Josh Pyke, Ben Lee, James Taylor, John Mayer, Alex Lloyd, Paul Kelly and Jewel.

In his live set Tim compliments his songs with his distinctive acoustic guitar style that blends finger-picking with his unique rhythmical approach. From his experience in acoustic duos Tim has a well developed skill of “being” the rhythm section.

A burning desire…

For Tim it has always been about a passion for music and the audience. As he will tell you “I want reach as many people as I can who can be moved by my music.” As long as Tim can remember, the dream of music spoke to him from deep within; he never imagined pursuing anything else.

Tim is a prolific songwriter as well as an accomplished guitar player…

When Tim was 14 he worked many odd jobs to save up for his first guitar. Over the next few years he spent countless hours teaching himself Blues, Rock, Classical & Heavy Metal styles. Whilst in High School he began playing lead guitar in award-winning stage and rock bands as well as composing his own material.

After high school he began his career as a professional guitarist, becoming very sought after in the northern NSW area. That road eventually landed him in Brisbane in the late 90’s where he scored some great jobs playing guitar for more established acts; impressing punters and work colleagues alike in roles ranging from lead guitarist in hard rock bands to guitarist/backing vocalist in acoustic duos.

But his true path…

Tim was always a songwriter at heart. With a strong passion for songwriting, he keenly presented his songs to his colleagues. Going from band to band, he continued to find himself in frustrating situations with band members not being interested in performing his music.

Something was telling him to go solo...

Tim wanted his performing career to have more personal expression; so in 2002 Tim swallowed his fears and left his role as a guitarist for a solo career as a singer/songwriter. He hit the Brisbane club & pub circuit playing sets of his original music and selling CDs he had recorded himself on his digital 8 track recorder. The level of connection with an audience in this new role was exactly what Tim was searching for. He then recorded his first Ep, which was well received in the Brisbane area, selling over 100 copies privately.

Getting to perform his original material was by far the most enjoyable experience of his career. Tim loves nothing more than writing songs, recording them and sharing them with people: giving the gift of music.

Taking a break…

Wanting to increase his skill base and independence, in 2003 Tim took a break from live playing to study for a Diploma in Contemporary Music, gaining valuable knowledge and skills in music business and performance. He then went on to study sound engineering. After that he strengthened his voice with professional vocal training.

Tim now had all the tools to take the next step and after putting together his own studio at home completed his first album "Seeing in the Dark" in early 2007. Tim was very exited of the idea of having to finally have an ‘album’ to his credit. He got a website happening and began promoting his music over the internet.

Tim decided that Melbourne was more his scene as it had many more venues and opportunities for solo artists. So Tim packed up again and moved down to Melbourne.

Back on stage…

To enhance Tim’s stage presence even further; he employed the services of a Personal Performance Coach. This was very fruitful and with the help of his Coach, Tim transformed himself into a very confident performer who is totally at-home on the stage, where he always knew he was meant to be.

Arriving in Melbourne gave Tim a fresh new enthusiasm. His introspective ballads attracted a fantastic crowd response - sometimes finding people who have never heard his music before singing along by the second chorus!

Connecting with people…

Tim loves nothing more than writing songs, recording them and sharing them with people, ultimately giving the gift of music. One of the most important elements of Tim’s performances lies in how the audience responds. His goal at every performance is to wrap his arms around his audience and make them feel welcome. “You can never stress enough how grateful you are that your fans came to your show” says Tim.

To Sum Up …

Tim is currently writing and putting together songs for his next two albums “The Grateful Journey” and “Don’t Hide Away” - A collection of stories about enjoying life, overcoming adversity, finding your passion and living your destiny.

Over time and logging 200-300 dates a year, Tim has developed a strong work ethic and extensive experience on stage in a variety
