"Timothy Scott deserves to be heard"

Artist: Timothy Scott

CD: Still-Beating Heart

Home: Charlotte, North Carolina

Style: Folk/Country

Quote: "Without a doubt, Timothy Scott deserves to be heard by the fan base that enjoys eclectic Americana music."

By Dan MacIntosh

Timothy Scott flies in the face of easy-does-it, conventional wisdom with his lyric to "Take It Fast." "Sometimes you just gotta take it fast!" This is not to say, however, that Scott’s music is particularly fast. Rather, he touches upon moderately paced folk and country elements to underpin his lyrics.

Scott may make folk and country his base elements, but he doesn’t just build his house with these limited and limiting materials. "Ask Not What Love Can Do for you," for instance, sports a jazzy guitar solo; "Irish Ditty," despite its Irish-centric sentiments, has a renaissance feel to it; "Owed to the Blues" is just what its title suggests: an upbeat, electrified blues rocker.

The clear standout track on this CD is one titled "1/2 Wicca & ½ Mize Thing," which – with its gypsy music feel – describes a New Age religious chick to whom Scott pleads: "Have mercy on a sinner like me." Scott may let loose with "Owed to the Blues," but he holds more back than he gives out. "And Now We Dance" is a gentle entry, aided by flute. "Someday" is also equally soft and features backing female vocals.

Without a doubt, Timothy Scott deserves to be heard by the fan base that enjoys eclectic Americana music. - Indie-music.com

"Timothy Scott stands out from the rest"

The vocals of Timothy Scott mimic the soft elegance of Ben Gibbard, lead singer of Death Cab for Cutie. His cautious nature breathes life into the finer details of being a singer/songwriter and showcases his thoughtfulness, simplistic rhythms and catchy melodies. Timothy’s vocal tonality reflects a whimsical boyish charm, but keeps grounded with full -fledged talent and dynamic influences.

On the one hand, Timothy works like many singer/songwriters, deconstructing the elements of a song into a basic method - acoustic guitar and crisp vocals. "She Wants More" is the most traditional track, simplistic to the "T" with attention drawn to the lyrics. However, he takes it one step further by introducing unique parings of genres with contemporary lyrics on other tracks.

"Bruthaman" starts off as a simplistic bluegrass track, but throws a twist into the mix by coupling it with metaphorical lyrics such as "…he rocks her world and she rocks his bed, enough to turn a pimp’s face red." Not your typical example of southern hospitality but it adds to the uniqueness of his charm. It’s an unexpected concoction that keeps the music interesting and the mood light.

One of my favorite tracks, "Wicca & MizThang" adds a dash of Latin flavor and spices it up with Spanish and Irish undertones. He maintains his playful lyrical style while evoking imagery of the devilish charm of his Wiccan beauty.

Timothy Scott has a smooth perfect pitched voice that draws you in allowing for a full experience, rhythmically, vocally and lyrically. He certainly isn’t cast from the typical singer/songwriter mold and keeps true to his unique stylistic quality which allows him to stand out from the rest. - Indie In-Tune Mag.

"Timothy Scott review"

Review: Timothy Scott - Col. Tamar Alexia Fleishman

Scott's a singer-songwriter that could have a great future ahead of him if he wants it. He says he's influenced by Bob Dylan, Hank Williams and Woody Guthrie.

His song "½ Wiccan & ½ Miz Thing" will probably be the favorite of most of our readers: it has a Santana-like sound with interesting instrumentation, a memorable melody and dusty, Southern tenor vocals. You gotta love lyrics about a girl who likes her meat and 3's. "Young Soul" has a 60's folk song quality, very Peter, Paul and Mary. "Take It Fast" might come off as a little too coffeehouse for y'all, but it does have pretty vocals. "Owed to the Blues" is a great song and could rock even more in the hands of a rock producer.
