It’s Featured Fridays and today I am very excited to share with you Timshel. Markus of the indie pop family Timshel from Vaasa in Finland wrote to me to share with me their music. So I am happily featuring them here so you may love it too.
So let’s tell you about them: Their sound is said to be American folk music with more modern indiepop and rock. Now I know that sounds like everything and anything, but classifying music is always a drag. What’s more interesting is why they refer to themselves as a family and not a band. That is because the members are currently spread out in 4 cities and 2 countries, which means that the set-ups change from show to show and they often have guest musicians and friends supporting them. That means that you never know the set up when coming to a Timshel show, and every show is different from the other.
Well that’s a pretty cool way of looking at it right? Yes I know what some of you are thinking – but that’s cheating! Then what is the true Timshel? And what if you want to hear exactly what’s in the recording? And how does that work practically? And who is actually in the band? And blah blah blah….Well if you are getting your panties in a twist, you must have been one of those annoying teacher’s pet who wanted to have a clear answer to everything so you could get it all right. Just take a chill pill.
I really appreciate that they love music so much, they find ways to make it work past logistical barriers and share it with people close to them who share the same appreciation for music, as often as possible. And cool people come along to watch it.
Right now they are planning to start recording their début album in the fall, and I cant wait to hear it. For now if you are Scandinavia look out for them because they are planning a mini tour. - MasMusic

Bands, die auf den Neofolk-Zug aufspringen und mit Mitstampf-Hymnen im Stile von Mumford & Sons und Konsorten ihr Glück versuchen, gibt es zur Zeit wie Sand am Meer. Das finnisch-schwedische Sextett Timshel hat neben einer großen Portion Eingängigkeit auch noch einen liebenswerten skandinavischen Akzent zu bieten, was die aktuelle Single “When We Fall” gleich noch ein wenig charmanter macht. - The worst is all behind you.
It’s bouncy, almost like that damn Allstate commercial that always comes over the radio – but Timshel’s “When We Fall” makes me want to keep listening instead of changing the channel. And that’s a pretty good indicator that these Finnish folk-poppers have something going for them.
There’s been a lot of Mumford talk in the office lately since they’ll be coming through town sometime soon, and I think a song like this would be an easy opening act for those guys. I can’t say I’m smitten anymore with Mumford, but considering they’re a gate-way band for many people in the rest of the new-folk realm, I can’t hate them – and if they had Timshel opening for them on tour somewhere, I’d definitely enjoy the show a little more. - http://yankeecalling.com

Timshel is an indie pop family from Vaasa in Finland. It started out as a solo project that became a four piece, which then grew to a small big band with six members. Inspired by everything from American literature and folk music to modern indiepop and rock, Timshel has created an energetic sound that is a mix between the acoustic and the electric. Combined with thoughtful lyrics, Timshel hopes to provoke, as well as comfort and spread joy and energy with their music.
Timshel’s latest single "When We Fall" was nominated as this year’s radio song in Swedish-speaking Finland. The song has also been played on several college radios in Sweden, Germany and the USA. The american blog Yankeecalling.com wrote this about the single: "It’s bouncy, almost like that damn Allstate commercial that always comes over the radio – but Timshel’s “When We Fall” makes me want to keep listening instead of changing the channel. When We Fall will be a part of the debut album which is currently in the making and will be released in the spring of 2014.
Bringing swinging indiepop, thoughtful lyrics, and honest energy to the scene, Timshel will make sure you have a good time without having to know any fancy dance moves other than the ones you were born with!
