Tina deVaron

Jazz Pianist

The multi-talented Tina deVaron is an acclaimed singer, songwriter, and jazz pianist whose scintillating combination of original songs and piano/vocal jazz have made her a favorite with audiences around the country.

Tina has just released her third CD, Tuckerman’s Ravine, eight original songs beautifully and simply produced on guitar and piano by her son Nick Lerangis, a charting songwriter (“Anna Sun”) and current member of Brooklyn alt-country band The Hunting Party.

Tina’s previous CD, Water Over Stones, was called “the soundtrack of my life” by NY Times columnist Lisa Belkin.  Her first album, If Mama Ain’t Happy, was hailed by writer Anne Lamott as “brilliant, funny, and wise.” Tina has also garnered success as a Billboard-charting songwriter for Adore You, recorded by the Grammy-nominated group Anointed (#1 on the Gospel charts), and for If I Close My Eyes (#2 on the dance radio charts).  Her songs have touched audiences coast-to-coast, received radio play, won her an invitation to the White House, and been used on MTV.

As a Princeton undergrad, Tina opened for Tom Waits.  Since then, she has played every top piano venue in NYC, from the Waldorf’s Peacock Alley, where she played Cole Porter’s piano and sang a duet with Frank Sinatra, to Bemelmans Bar at the Carlyle, where she recently sang with Billy Joel.

Tina just concluded her third successful season of Tunes with Tina, her jazz brunch for families at the Langham Place Hotel.  Her weekly event Tea with Madeline has sold out every December for nine years at NYC’s Carlyle Hotel, home to so many of the world’s jazz legends.

Her musical Perfect Mothers was chosen as broadway.com’s Top Ten NYMF Shows to see in the 2013 New York Musicals Festival’s Reading Series.  The reading featured Tony® winner Adriane Lenox and Tony® nominees Nancy Opel and Jenn Colella, along with other Broadway veterans Kenita Miller (The Color Purple) and Amy Bodnar (Ragtime).
