"High Bias"

Mirror
(Tina Angotti)
Singer/songwriter Tina Angotti is more of a pop artist than a folk singer—a good thing in a field crowded with WGWGs (white girls with guitars). It helps that her big brother is Chicago pop genius Phil Angotti, who produced and plays on Mirror. Though Phil adds appropriately tasteful instrumentation as needed, the foundation is always Tina's supple voice and nimble guitar picking, allowing the spotlight to fall on unpretentious, melodic tunes like "Walk With Me," "It's Alright" and "My Imagination." TINA ANGOTTI
MIRROR

Tina Angotti's debut release Mirror is a wonderful CD that adult pop-rock fans and old school folkies will both enjoy. Angotti definitely hits the mark with her rich vocals and textured acoustic guitar sound on the intimate 12-song collection.
Mirror is a refreshingly straightforward record. Angotti has no tricks up her musical sleeve, and she isn’t preoccupied with lyrical mysteries either. Instead, she wraps the soothing sounds of her warm acoustic guitar around accessible lyrics about life and love in songs with forthright titles.
The reflective title track opens the CD, and its smooth and easy style is the template for the winning formula used throughout the record. The gentle acoustic guitar intro of “Stay” easily suggests Fleetwood Mac’s classic “Landslide,” but Angotti clearly has her own story to tell in one of the record’s best songs. When she turns up the tempo for the bright and bouncy “I Feel,” and uplifting “It’s Alright,” it’s adds just enough variety to keep the CD even and balanced.
Mirror was co-produced by the singer-songwriter and her brother Phil Angotti, who contributes acoustic, electric, Spanish and bass guitar in all the right places. It’s an auspicious debut that suggests there’s much more to come from this very talented Phoenix-based artist. Tina Angotti's pure and easy style and classic sound makes Mirror that rare new find worthy of airplay on the radio or at home in a mix of well-worn favorites by the Indigo Girls, Tracy Chapman, Shawn Colvin, Joni Mitchell and Carole King.

The sound on this album anchors itself in Tina's folky acoustic guitar rhythms and warm, inviting voice. Unlike so many contrived acts on the current scene Tina's expression is effortless. On the title track quiet strums lay the foundation for this introspective journey. "The truth is when I'm looking at you/ And you're looking at me."

These songs are often sedated, using an intimate fingerpicking approach to make the connection. Tracks like, "Not Making Sense" and "Stay", pull the listener into a deep, personal space.

Other songs take a different path. "Walk with Me" ups the tempo, pushing a low frequency bassline and an undeniable invisible beat. "It's Alright" continues to burn, again without a drum kit in the mix. Then "I Feel" pulls all the stops and transforms into a full on electric rock band.

Tina's emotional honesty, artistic clarity and sure fire melodies all stir together to create beautiful music. It's true. Just look in the mirror.

Purity. Simplicity. Strength. Gentle intensity. Lyrics deceptively deep. Tina Angotti's 12-song debut centers around all those ingredients featuring her gorgeous voice.

Many (if not all) of these tunes are expressions of observations from all facets of life and a straight-on look at the truth as she sees it.

Considering the depth of her writing, there is a decidedly spiritual humanistic thread here that reveals quite a bit of understanding.

For pure enthusiasm, there's the up-tempo acoustic-electric "I Feel" and the all-acoustic "It's Alright" -- both driving folk rockers. The latter will put a smile on your face, in spite of the lyrics that invite you to "go ahead and feel your sadness." Tina's sometimes ferocious strumming puts out an infectious energy that makes it really hard to sit still.

Sit around (or dance around) and listen to this CD and it's almost certain you'll find you really like it.

Song: Stay (from the CD "Mirror")

This song features just an acoustic guitar and a rich sounding female voice.
The recording itself is just as rich and has certain warmth to it. The vocal
comes across as very heartfelt and the close to dry sound (you know, the
absence of reverb) makes it sound as though she is right there singing
directly to you. The vocal is strong and steady, smooth and flowing. That
approach works well for this track and makes the intimate lyrics seem that
much more intimate. You'll find this to be a very relaxing song and pleasing
to the ear.

What really strikes me is how well captured the tones of the guitar are.
Such a sweeeeet sounding guitar!

You'll definitely want to "stay" with this one. One place you can do
that is on Tina's website where you'll hear more clips from her CD "Mirror".
The website is professional, smart, and easy to find your way around.

Tina Angotti: Mirror

Crisp, clean production, vibrant acoustic guitar, and a smooth voice all combine to make Mirror one of the best local CDs I've heard in a long time. Tina Angotti's musical style blends rock, r&b, and folk, and the songs each bring a unique flavor to the album. The sparkling piano on "My Imagination" contains a modern rock (i.e. Tori Amos) feel, "Walk with Me" strums its way into the pantheon of "great folk," and "I Feel" meshes country with a pop feel.
Angotti's music has been described as "edge without anger." While many of her songs could be seen as personal explorations, the listener never gets the sense of angst, but rather of growth, as Angotti's perceptions blossom along with the songs' instrumentation. Folk fans, particularly fans of Indigo Girls, should definitely check out Angotti's unique brand of song crafting.

Her successful debut CD entitled Mirror is a melodically intricate and vocally startling reflection of the movements and moments of her own life.

Tina Angotti’s musical journey began in her hometown of Chicago where she shaped her talents opening for her brother, Phil Angotti and his band, The Idea.
