Biography

Five lifetimes of influences, from pop to punk, from classical to country, from stadium rock to, um, stadium rock, the essences of which have been lovingly handcrafted into the amalgam known as Tin Foil Helmet. Built on the foundation of longtime collaborators Jeff Funk (bass, vocal stylings) and Ted Williams (guitars, vocals, air), TFH emerges from its slumber to unleash potent, accessible, original rock on the waiting world. Joining Jeff and Ted on the TFH mission are veteran Madison drummer Eric Dummer (Marques Bovre and the Evil Twins, Doll), Steve Beyer (blistering lead guitar, amusing [at least to the band] absences, vocals on the songs he knows the words to), and Ed Monahan (guitars, vocals, and manic comic presence).

The first five songs from Tin Foil Helmet’s upcoming album reveal the diversity of their influences while still reflecting a cohesive whole. There’s the straight-ahead (stadium?) rock of “Up Money”, the in-the-pocket groove of “The Best Is Yet To Come”, the guitar jangle and atmospheric shimmer of “Green World”, the garage-punk feel of “Teeth Of The Demon”, and the driving, pure power pop of “Take It Away”. Lyrically, the songs range from the seriousness of urban sprawl and phobias, to the whimsy of kicking ass at the poker table or just standing on the corner waiting for something to happen.
