Here’s a first for the bava, I get to introduce the Western hemisphere to a kickass band from Trento, Italia: TINS (a.k.a Tourists in Sunderland). “What the hell are you doing pushing music you philistine?!” you ask accusingly. “You’re a b-movie junkie, stick to what you know!” Calm down, Hoss, my special lady friend just happens to have been born and raised in Trento, Italy and spent the first 30 years of her life eating Gorgonzola cheese. And, as it happens, this video was co-created by her dear friend, talented filmmaker, and all around cool cat Andrea Andreotti. As soon as I saw the video it blew me away, Andrea’s recent foray into the cut and paste aesthetic is really compelling. Not only does it introduce a visually rich and colorful outer space landscape a la Mario Bava’s Planet of the Vampires, but it also imagines Elvis and Marilyn Monroe in space—a side of these cut-out icons we seldom see. There’s also a wide-range of fun film references throughout, Salesman on the TV being a personal favorite.

What’s more, the song “Spaceland” by TINS is a circularly seductive tune. It pulls you into its rhythm, and it quickly gets hard to bring yourself out of their gravitational beats. All this from an English-singing Italian band that has no label and is simply producing their songs at home on a Mac. I love it! And, as it happens, this video was co-created by her dear friend and all around cool cat Andrea Andreotti. A guy who is a talented filmmaker, and as soon as I saw it I was blown away by his recent foray into the cut and paste aesthetic. I begged him to blog it. Not only cause the video introduces a really powerful aesthetic that captures the playful nature of the cut and paste web, but also introduces a wide range of fun film references throughout, Salesman on the TV being a personal favorite.

Il loro background musicale e' la musica degli anni '80; con influenze stilistiche, anche se in versione originalissima, di David Bowie, The Cure, U2, Madonna. La band live e' composta da: Franco Depedri (voce), Stefano Laudadio (chitarra), Roberto Segato (tastiera), Sara Picone (vocalist), Fabrizio Casali (basso), Mario Punzi (batteria), Mariano De Tassis (percussioni), Davide Tamanini (chitarra, synth e vocalist).

I TINS, acronimo di Tourists in Sunderland, primo album del gruppo, presenteranno nove pezzi originali in versione live in una nuova serata di musica all’interno del programma The Rocky Mountain People Show della Galleria Civica di Arte Contemporanea di Trento.
Il background musicale dei TINS è la musica degli anni ’80; per questo motivo possiamo notare influenze stilistiche, anche se in versione originalissima, che si ispirano a personaggi del calibro di David Bowie, The Cure, U2, Madonna, mescolate alle esperienze concrete e diverse dei singoli componenti del gruppo. La band live è composta da: Franco Depedri (voce), Stefano Laudadio (chitarra), Roberto Segato (tastiera), Sara Picone (vocalist), Fabrizio Casali (basso), Mario Punzi (batteria), Mariano De Tassis (percussioni), Davide Tamanini (chitarra, synth e vocalist).
Ci sarà inoltre anche Radio NBC con una stazione mobile in diretta per tre ore circa, Nicola Ferrari con il suo DJ Live Entertainment nelle pause del concerto e Fabio de Pretis del Bluse Noise Recording Studio di Trento che si occuperà del Sound Engineer della serata. Verrà inoltre girato un video clip del live per documentare la performance e renderla fruibile agli interessati e curiosi. - www.artapartofculture.org
