BandAlternativeRock

This roots-tinged pop rock duo meldes the expansive acoustic sounds and tight harmonies of vintage R.E.M. with the electronic, experimental style of a latter-day Wilco - creating a lyrically and sonically deeper pool from which their own future-forward brand of soaring alternative rock is drawn.

Biography

tiñsel tildé formed out of the burgeoning alternative rock scene in NYC in early 2002 and soon began playing out in clubs and bars to amassing interest. The duo at the core of tiñsel tildé, Robert Lucente and Lenny Tafro, had begun their collaboration in a previous Bay-Area based quasi-jam-band, Twenty Twelve, while both were living in San Francisco in the late 90s. The pair felt limited by the jam-band genre's focus on expansive instrumental excursions without attention to songcraft and lyric, and soon headed back to New York City, where a new indie rock scene was exploding - mashing up the 70's and 80's most interesting and seminal left-of-center bands with a current look towards experimentalism, genre-blending, and appreciative yet aloof tribute.

The two realized that their penchant for songcraft with deft hooks and meaningful content could be an asset instead of a liability, and forged ahead to record a sweeping demo EP, "Day of Reckoning". tiñsel tildé threw all of their musical tastes into the mix, from the East-Asian sounds and instrumentation of their neo-hippie roots to the dark electronic density of new–rave culture and the rootsy, Americana rock that naturally flows from their pens and strings without pretense or effort.

These guys are now on a mission, to spread a message of unity and progressive world consciousness or maybe just a new sound to some old ears who haven't heard everything… yet.

Lyrics

it seems

Written By: robert lucente

don't know if its me
but things seem strange to see
around every bend there's a change
in the scheme

don't know if I'm wrong
but nothing lasts for long
each and every day is getting quicker
it seems

look for signs of the times
there's meaning behind every sight
I know we all know it’s true
the spirit inside me and you

is trying to explode
it feels like it's gonna blow
now it's up to you and me
it seems

let the language in your mind come to life
realize it's time to unite
we've got to put love back in the dream
now it's up to you and me
it seems

I don't know for sure
But I've seen it once before
a kind of déjà vu where nothing is new
it seems

I dont have the proof
or even know why
but I hope it's not too long until we find
a new way

look for signs of the times
there's meaning behind every sight
I know we all know its true
the secret inside me and you

is trying to ignite
it feels like it's really ripe
now it's up to you and me
it seems

let the language in your mind come to life
realize it's time to unite
we've got to put love back in the dream
now it's up to you and me
it seems

billy was allright in the morning
when he first woke
and then it hit without a warning
and he began to choke

she came and left without a reason
went without a fight
he stares in hopeless fascination
at the flickerings of light
reflected from the many crystals
she'd hung over the bed
said they would exorcise the demons
that were running 'round his head

chorus:
he’s looking for deliverance
in the writings on his wall
he's searching for the answer
to the meaning of it all

she took the honda to the valley
she's staying with some friends
billy didn't think he'd ever
see her face again

he sits alone and stares for hours
trying to ignore
all the little things she left there
that he'd never seen before

in the back room there's a window
with a message painted red
he saw her put it there last summer
and this is what it said:
it says 'tomorrow can be different,
it's a bright and brand new day
and we don't really have to suffer
suffer 'long this way

chorus:
he’s looking for deliverance
in the writings on his wall
he's searching for the answer
to the meaning of it all

he don't know
he don't know
the meaning of
it all

he don't know
he don't know
the meaning of
it all

he don't know
he don't know
the meaning of
it all

I feel you breathing in this empty granite slate
Your whisper calls me to the room

I feel you watching me above the earth so high
Your plans for me they must resume

I try to walk among the mortal men above
But thoughts of you consume my view

I try to sleep at night alone among the ruins
But every night return to you

Chorus:
dig beneath the surface and soon we should find
a freedom for another kind
let us pull him from this stone and make him shine
let us pull him from this stone and make him shine

I want to find you in the etchings on my wall
Reach out your hand and touch this stone

I want to free you from the prison in my mind
In doing so I stand alone

I want to free myself from staring at your skin
It seems from birth I’ve watched you grow

I want to free myself from taking up this time
In search of making you divine.

Chorus:
dig beneath the surface and soon we should find
a freedom for another kind
let us pull him from this stone and make him shine
let us pull him from this stone and make him shine
