"Performing Songwriter"

"Sweet Sweetness, from NYC-based Tiny Animals, was one of my favorite discoveries this month (and by “discovery,” I mean a band whose promo CD stood head and shoulders above the stacks piled upon an extremely unorganized desk)." - Performing Songwriter

"Innocent Words Magazine"

"I can easily picture the track “Useless” being played nonstop on MTV some hot summer day back in 1995." - Innocent Words Magazine

"Washington Post"

"They make unapologetically hooky mainstream-friendly rock with lots of ear-grabbing riffs."
-Tony Sclafani - Washington Post

Tiny Animals
"Sweet Sweetness"

Siblings Chris and Rita Maye Howerton join forces in rock on their debut. Subverting the indie world's natural predilection for melodic complexity and inconclusive, nuance-laden lyrics, this NYC-based threesome (bassist Anton Kreisl joins the family unit) play a strain of bright chorus-centric modern rock little heard outside the head of Rivers Cuomo. With the welcome wrinkle of shared harmonies, "Sweetness" is often miles better than anything Clear Channel has to push on a workday afternoon.

"All Music Guide (3.5 Stars)"

Throughout the course of rock history, there have always seemed to be bands that just can't make up their minds as to whether they're a pop band or a rock band. Or rather, they tip their pop/rock stylings so far towards sticky sweet melodies that they're a rock band only in name. Case in point, Tiny Animals and their 2009 effort, the appropriately titled Sweet Sweetness. While there are some passing musical similarities to Weezer and the Strokes throughout, Tiny Animals are all about penning melodies that stick in your noggin like a pitchfork that you just can't break free from. For the supersonic proof, the album opening "Youth Today" is a good place to start, as well as "Useless" and "Goodbye July." Tiny Animals make no bones about their desire to pen straight-ahead pop nuggets, as heard throughout Sweet Sweetness.

Bio

New York City's power trio, Tiny Animals, released their debut full-length album Sweet Sweetness (North Street Records) on May 12, 2009. Sweet Sweetness, recorded in New York in the fall of 2008 and mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer (who has worked with Rich Costey on Interpol, Brand New, Franz Ferdinand, Foo Fighters, and Muse), offers twelve tracks of bright, gimmick-free pop-rock.
"With Tiny Animals, what you see is what you get," says Rita Maye. "We're never really trying to create a specific image. We come as we are in rehearsal, on stage, and in the studio." This mentality has given the band a unique edge in the music industry which can be seen in their clever online interviews, creative live performances, and especially their hilarious webisodes. As a follow-up to the overwhelming popularity of the band's YouTube webisode series, Tiny Animals released the debut music video for "Useless" in September 2009. Other highlights listed below....
