Bio

The group was created from the meeting of it's integrants on Rio de Janeiro´s neighborhood, bohemian redoubt: Lapa, , where samba´s and chorões´ (popular rhythm) composers meet. Tira Poeira surprises on its repertoire, melodic and rhythmical and also on the virtuosi of the musicians. With the name clipped off a traditional “choro” by Sátiro Bilhar, Tira Poeira mixes elements from jazz, samba and bossa nova, revisiting geniuses themes such as Waldir Azevedo, Jacob do Bandolim, Pixinguinha, Ernesto Nazareth, Chico Buarque, Vinícius de Moraes and Baden Powell.
Tira Poeira´s music's peculiarity is due at first to the diversity on the musical education of its integrants - samba, classical music, Cuban music, jazz, flamenco - that now use all this rich and sonorous material on their interpretation. Freedom and impromptu occupy a place of distinction, attached to elaborated arrangements; the result is a surprisingly vibrant combination. The first CD, launched by the seal “Biscoito Fino” in 2003 , was recognized and praised by all musical chains and ended up being pointed out to “BR ´s Rival prize” on the revelation's category and for “Tim's prize” for revelation as well. The participation on TIM ´s festival on 2003, one of Brazil's most important musical events, was considered by the press as outstanding, one of the best surprises on the festival. The group was then taken on tour through several cities in Brazil, by Pixinguinha Project.
Maria Bethânia bet on the group's originality and versatility and blended her powerful voice to the quintet's sound on the song ”Padroeiro do Brasil” on the CD “Brasileirinho ao vivo”, launched by the seal Quitanda on 2003.The song also appears on the DVD "Brasileirinho ao vivo", recorded live at Canecão, in Rio de Janeiro. Olívia Hime also included the group´s sound on her “Canção Transparente”.The re-reading of classics such as “Consolação” (Baden-Vinícius) and “Atrás da Porta” (Francis-Chico) among many others has led the quintet to share the stage with renowned artists such as Lenine, Beth Carvalho and Zélia Duncan.
Between 2005 and 2006, the members of Tira Poeira decided to invest on their solo careers and the quintet became inactive during this period. In 2007 the group reunites and retakes its activities, officially showing up on “Feira Música Brasil 2007” (Brazil's Music Fair in Recife). As a result from this meeting , Tira Poeira releases it’s second CD, “Feijoada Completa” (reference to a tipycal Brazilian culinary dish that mix together different elements ), that will be launched again by Biscoito Fino in april, 2008. On this new CD, the group intends to expand their horizons even more then on its previous work, interpreting songs like “Gente Humilde” (Chico Buarque, Garoto e Vinícius de Moraes), “Feijoada Completa” (Chico Buarque) and “Eleanor Righby” (Beatles), among others. This CD also has speacial featuring of Maria Bethânia, Lenine and Olívia Hime and the release of an unknown song of Baden Powell – “Canto de Yansã”.
