Tizzy Bac

Tizzy Bac was composed of literal collage students in Taiwan in December 1999. At first, the trio was only curious about how far a band without guitars could reach, and then, in April 2000, they played their first gig in “Spring Screen” festival. Following their debut, which drew much attention, they were awarded the No.1 prize in the 2002 Hohaiyan Rock Festival, the biggest battle of bands in Taiwan at that time.

Since, the band never stopped touring and performing. Invitations has come from Taiwan and abroad, including Fuji Rock 2005 in Japan and several concerts in Singapore, Hong Kong and China, and Free Tibet concert in Taiwan 2003. They had also been invited to Formoz from 2003 to 2007, which has been the biggest international indie event in Taiwan. In 2007, they received “Best Producer” in Golden Melody Award, which is the Taiwanese phonographic industry’s annual music award.

Different from an ordinary band, Tizzy Bac has no guitarist. All guitar effects such as distortion/overdrive are made by bass. Piano/keyboard is the mainstream of their arrangements, and thus they are well known as a “piano rock” band. In their early stage, their musical style was described as succeeding to Ben Folds Five. The representative work in this period was their first studio album Anything Can Tempt Me.

After their debut album, they settled on Chien-Yuan Lin as their drummer and switched the musical style into clearer and heavier rock. Since their second album It’s All My Fault, their musical style has been defined as alternative rock.

Their lyrics reflect on sorrow and pain in life. In the hope of bringing positive thoughts on the negative emotions and experiences, they wish the lyrics transferred the feelings into strength and courage. Their lyrics are long, and thus they also described their musical style as “grumbling” style. This theme usually appeals to echo and response from audiences who have more various experiences in life, so they are sometimes categorized as adult alternative.

The third studio album If I See Hell, I Won't Be Afraid of Demons, was released in February 2009. The band extended the theme than the self and outreach a broader vision. Elements from various musical style and possibilities of fusing all kinds of expression can be found in the arrangement. This album can be seen an evidence that the band is more mature and still moving forward.

And in October 2009, they did the big concert at TICC ( Taipei International Convention Center ), which is a representative site for concert in Taipei, receiving about 3000 audiences that night, and achieved remarkable success. At the same time, they released the concert EP Don’t Change. In March 2010, they attended “SXSW” ( South By Southwest Festival ) in Austin, Texas, U.S., and in May 2010, they also made a show case in “Sound City”, which is also a festival in Liverpool, UK. Tizzy Bac intends spread out their music career into the whole world.
