"Tom Thompson s Heart of Klay CD Review"

TJ really struts his stuff as he showcases his writing and singing talent on ten of the CD’s fourteen cuts. With his writing partner Glenn Ashworth, TJ the writer has given TJ the performer several warm, touching, ballads that reflect upon life and evoke a sense of déjà vu. It seems like I’ve known “Earthly Ol’ Soul” for most of the last twenty years…like an old Dan Fogelberg hit from the eighties. Fogelberg gets a writing credit on this CD with a different song that I don’t recall ever hearing before. There are enough spiritual references that place this CD in the “Christian Music” category, but it holds as much appeal for its “easy listening” quality.

I love to hear that Hohner Harmonica of TJ’s lick the edges of a tune like “Run This Race For You”. TJ’s harmonica style is as well defined as Johnny Cash’s guitar lick. He can’t be beat on that juice harp, and he’s getting harder to beat on the clays course every year. My shootin’ buddy is also my favorite recording artist. When “Heart of Klay” finally comes out of my CD player it will be replaced by one of the several other TJ offerings in my collection.
- Tom Thompson (writer for Clay Shooting USA)

"Letters of Recommendation"

"Let me make a wholehearted endorsement for TJ and his music! TJ was right at home in our services and had feet tapping from age 6 to 96! His talent as a songwriter/singer/musician is rare. TJ's heart for the gospel is evident in his perspective on life, both in the church and in the world. As a believer in Jesus Christ, his music glorifies God, but also weaves in secular songs to show the perspective of man's search for meaning. His music bears the mark of someone who has struggled with life's ultimate questions and has a deeper faith to show for it! And TJ knows how to have fun!" - Dr. John Petty

"Letters of Recommendation"

"The first time I heard "He Calls me Son", my heart was so moved it put to music the bond I have with my adopted children. TJ Klay is a musician that touches the heart. His songwriting, playing and singing connects in a way that is real and genuine. I never miss an opportunity to hear him" - James B. Richards Author, Speaker and founder of Impact Ministries

"Letters of Recommendation"

"TJ Klay, besides being a very kind and nice man, can also make a simple diatonic harmonica sound like a chromatic harp! Like Howard Levy, he overblows melodically to get the notes that "aren't really there". He plays from jazzy to bluesy and everywhere in-between too!" - Johnny Bishop (formerly with Hohner Harmonica USA

"Letters of Recommendation"

"His music is truly for All Kinds of People. TJ has performed for us six to seven time. He is a wonderful entertainer and is always a pleasure to work with"

- Marc Reynerson Retired Scout Executive Director Boy Scouts of America

"Letters of Recommendation"

"He smokes the harmonica, guitar and sings great songs...story songs to which real people can relate. I hope you enjoy his music as much as I do" - Jerry Matthers

"Letters of Recommendation"

"We have had TJ Klay at our celebrity quail hunt over the past few years and he has entertained the crowd enthusiastically with his hometown approach. Our conservationists and VIP guests have repeatedly requested that we ask Mr. Klay to perform. He is a crowd pleaser. His generosity has allowed us to raise much-needed funds for our conservation efforts nationwide..." - Jerry Allen Adm VP Founder , Quail Unlimited

"Letters of Recommendation"

"TJ is the most accomplished harpist I know and his song about my dad is awesome! He is also a true friend and one heck of a good shot with a shotgun, but I'm still not going to cut him any slak on the trap field....' - Roy Rogers Jr. (Dusty)

Bio

Nashville Singer/Songwriter and 22 year Hohner Harmonica Artist, TJ Klay was an original member of the country band “Western Flyer”. His harmonica, mandolin, guitar and harmony vocals graced the group’s two CDs and helped garn them four hit singles and three CMT videos. They performed for the Kansas City Royals, the Martin Luther King Foundation and President Clinton.

TJ performs solo and with a trio at venues and shooting events across the country and currently is a member of the Pro-Staff for HI VIZ sight systems, a BrowninG Shotgun ambassador and the 2006 Texas State Sporting Clays Open A Class Champion. With his publishing company, Sporting Klay’s Music, he has released four solo CDs, written and produced “The Grand American” CD for the ATA’s Grand American Trapshooting Championship, the “San Antonio in September” CD for the NSCA’s Sporting Clays Nationals and the “Shoot for the Moon” CD for USA Shooting. The song was featured in their video promotion for the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece.

T.J.Klay's latest album, "Heart of Klay", is resplendent with well crafted lyrics and melodies. His songs are snapshots of life as we all live it. "Back in America is a baby boomer's nostalgic look at growing up in innocence and lamenting the changes in our culture and in our country. Klay's smoking hot harmonica licks are sprinkled throughout the whole CD, and his moving duet with Jonelle Mosser on "Jump into the Arms of Jesus" explores the inborn longing we all feel to be free from earthly struggles. This album is filled with georgeous melodies interwoven with thoughtful insights about spirituality and the promise of paradise that we as Christians, live for.

Yes...TJ's "Heart of Klay" is definetly a triumph and promises to be his best solo effort yet! It features country rock legend Richie Furay, Firefall’s Steven Weinmeister, slide guitarist Jack Pearson, Reese Wynans on piano, Delbert McClinton’s drummer Lynn Williams, Grammy award winning producer Michael Omartian on organ, legendary lap slider Al Perkins, and a host of others!
