The Lion in Winter

The Lion in Winter

 Charleston, South Carolina, USA
BandAlternativeRock

Columbia's The Lion in Winter, labor by heart. An ensemble of a promising voice (Hunter Duncan) teamed with a Radiohead/Bazan style tug at your emotions reminding you why you listen.

Biography

To say The Lion in Winter is a new band would be an understatement to singer/songwriter Hunter Duncan and his previous projects (American Religion, Kill Anties). To forward himself from his local past (Kill Anties) he started The Lion in Winter to progress his music into a more mature state. The band has recorded their first EP and are looking to continue work with Regenerate Music Company based out of Cleveland, TN. Now, the road.

The Lion in Winter’s variegated indie rock is handsome, graceful and impressive, sweeping and grandiose in scope but rooted in spiraling pop hooks. The band’s songs build in refined and stylish crescendos, borrowing from American post-rock, but Hunter Duncan’s songwriting voice favors pre-millennial but post-OK Computer Britpop; the combination is both pretty and potent, resulting in incandescent choruses that fade to slow-burn singalongs.

Lyrics

Valley

Written By: Joseph Hunter Duncan

Don't say you love me cause I know that you don't
Say you want me cause I know that you don't
Ever leave me, I'm no good on my own

Find me in the valley
Where you can't hurt me
I've been down deeper than
The sunken ships of my brothers before me

Don't say you love me cause I know that you don't
And I know that you won't

Ledges and Bridges

Written By: Joseph Hunter Duncan

It's written all over your face
Plain as your white T-shirt
And I can read your lips
Even though you haven't spoken a word

I'm starting to hate myself
If you couldn't already tell
I'll send my life on straight to hell
I might as well

I ain't a good man
Ain't a bad one either
I'm somewhere in between
Right where the good Lord has placed me

I'm starting to hate myself
If you couldn't already tell
I'll send my life on straight to hell
I might as well
All my friends are jumping off ledges and bridges
According to their religion
They might as well

I ain't no Jesus Christ, I can't save you
Even if I was what makes you think I would
Burn in Hell, all of you

I'm starting to hate myself
If you couldn't already tell
I'll send my life on straight to hell
I might as well
All my friends are jumping off ledges and bridges
According to their religion
They might as well

I ain't no Jesus Christ, I can't save you
Even if I was what makes you think I would
Burn in Hell, all of you

Parade of Stories

Written By: Joseph Hunter Duncan

Fill it up to the brim
That's how you and I view sin
We keep pushing it and pushing
Till it all pours out and we're sinking

And I said oh my God you've won
I said oh my God you've won

I wish I had the habit
Of being a decent man
To bridle my tongue and to shut my mouth
And forever remain silent

And I said oh my God you've won
I said oh my God you've won

And when the sun comes up, I won't be there
When you put your clothes back on, I won't be there
In the coolest night, I won't be there
Until the tears flood from your eyes, I still won't be there

Parade of stories that I told
Don't mean a damn thing at all
Parade of stories that I told
You worship them until their gone

Burn it down to the ground
Burn it down to the ground
