T. Matthew Jackson Band

 King, North Carolina, USA
BandRockFolk

Appalachian meets New Orleans, T. Matthew Jackson is a touch of Southern gentleman with a liberal dash of Rock and Roll thrown in for good measure.

Biography

T. Matthew Jackson (aka Tommy) got his start as a musician at the age of 12 but it wasn't until his twenties when he started thinking of himself as a songwriter, when he co-wrote a song which passed through Abbey Road Studios in London, England and was mastered by engineer Sean Magee, who has worked with artists such as Mogwai, Blink, and, most famously, Pink Floyd.
Since then he has dedicated himself to writing original music. With a background in acoustic rock, improvisational music, and anything else passing his way, Jackson is backed by a hard hitting band which makes for great chemistry at live events.

Shadow

Written By: Tommy Jackson

rooster crowing at the break of dawn
he waits all night then sings along
to the heartbreak of one more day
then the moment comes and fades away
and i'm standing in the yard watching cars go by
shoulders shrugged up at the sky
and the color of the breeze blows across my face
and the pale of the night fades away

i don't know what to do
i feel i'm torn in two
and everywhere i go
follows my shadow

so they say and so it goes
the sky cracks open and you're in the unknown
and time never seemed to last so long
all the answers all seem wrong
and a smile creeps into one side of your mouth
as everything you know turns upside down
and i'm hear your there its all a show
we lock eyes and agree that we still don't know

i don't know what to do
i feel i'm torn in two
and everywhere i go
follows my shadow

you don't know what you do
don't know what you say
don't know what you're going to do
but you're going to do it anyway

Animal

Written By: Tommy Jackson

You say you don’t like him talking to you
Say you wish he was dead
Well I’ve got a gun in my car
Want me to put a bullet in his head?

Like a bull in a china shop
A rooster before a fight
You say you don’t like him talking to you
Well he won’t make it through the night

I’ve got a devil on my shoulder
Going into my head
Making everything that I see
Turn a shade of red

I’ve got an animal inside of me
You want to burn us to the ground
Then set it free
I like a little bit of anarchy
You want to push me to the edge
Then you will see

You whispered in my ear
Said do it for me
But the cock of my gun is all I hear
Red is all I see

I’m going to find him
Make him pay
My soul has turned black
Going to put him in the trunk of my car
He’s never coming back

I’ve got an animal inside of me
You want to burn us to the ground
Then set it free
I like a little bit of anarchy
You want to push me to the edge
Then you will see

Never Come Back

Written By: Tommy Jackson

Isn’t it crazy how things turned out to be?
It was something we could never forsee
Isn’t it crazy how we go into the unknown?
It was something we were never told
Now it’s something that cannot be ignored
It’ll never be the way it was before

But I’m never going to come back down
Never going to turn myself around
Never going to come back

It’s easy to say I can not because I don’t have
But you can’t look up if you can’t look back and laugh
So toss another coin into the wishing well
But it’s something you can never tell
Sometimes I’m lost and I don’t know what to do
Just tell myself gotta keep on pushing through
If I had a dollar for everything I didn’t know
I’d go around the world and I’d still be rich I’m told

But I’m never going to come back

Lottery Suicide

Written By: Tommy Jackson

I feel so trapped in
Feel so used
I’m tired of being thrown around
Tired of this abuse

Sounded so good
The first words you said
But I should have waited to sign my name because
Now I’m better off dead

The jury’s gone
Judge has left for the day
Brought the gavel down on me
Before hearing what I had to say
Now I’m trapped inside myself
No key to let me out
And the contract with my name I never saw
Has already been signed
It’s a lottery suicide

I’m not saying that I’m innocent
But I know that you’ve done worse
I’ve gambled with my money but
You’ve played with the lives of others
I’ve been trapped in, left behind
Forgotten as soon as my name was signed
Tossed out, thrown to the curb
Now there’s a sign on the door
The one I’ve been looking forward
A sign that says do not disturb

Chorus

Thinking was my sentence
Thinking was my crime
I’m at the mercy of a higher power now
An innocence divine
Thankyou muse that I used to love
I never asked for this
When I said I wanted more
You gave too much and I was dismissed

Chorus
