"The Songs of 2014 : Silver Currents #4"

Multi-instrumentalist Lauren Grubb has been producing music under her To The Wedding moniker for a few years now, but this year she stepped things up a notch. ‘Silver Currents’ – the first single from her recently released EP – is nothing short of breathtaking. A slow-burning mini-epic that is part Chris Isaak, part Warpaint and in places not too far from the UK’s very own Marika Hackman ‘Silver Currents’, sees chiming guitars weave in and out of one another before reverb-washed drums build it up to its thrilling yet understated climax. It’s quite possibly the slowest song on our 20 – 1 countdown but by far the most elegant and a track we are desperate for the WTGR readership to fall head over heels in love with in the manner we have. By the time To The Wedding are reaching their mighty, majestic, melancholy crescendo in the tracks’ closing minutes you won’t need anything else. Sit back. Shut your eyes. Take it in. - When The Gramophone Rings

"40 Essential EPs from 2014 Part II"

The most underrated release on this list, To The Wedding’s elegant, swirling, shoegaze inspired numbers more than earned her a place amongst the best. - Crack In The Road

"To The Wedding - 'Silver Currents'"

To The Wedding‘s latest EP ‘Silver Currents‘ has barely been out a month but it’s already been praised by The Wild Honey Pie, DKFM, Crack In The Road and NME. The beauty of songs like ‘Come On’ and ‘Silver Currents’ places the EP among the year’s best dream pop releases. Multi-instrumentalist Lauren Grubb translates simple melodies into a rich, cinematic atmosphere (for fans of Memoryhouse, Echo Lake and Still Corners). It’s the second offering from the Californian since 2010, now we need a full length! - Sounds Better With Reverb

"Slow Things Down With To The Wedding's 'Come On'"

San Francisco’s To The Wedding is set to release her first full-length this October, a month in which the fall season has entirely left behind transition and fully come into its own. Alternately, the track we are pleased to premiere today is absorbed in transition — more specifically the holding on and letting go reminiscent of the spaces we find ourselves in when trying to stay awake or trying to awaken. With sleepy, shimmery guitars and mesmerizing vocals, “Come On” practically spells out dreamy. Lauren Grubb’s affection for Mazzy Star’s druggy twilight jams bleeds through with every phrase. After the song is over, we find ourselves humming, “Come on, let me have it, come on” as if left behind by some soft exquisite dream. To The Wedding’s Silver Currents is sure to be an album for those chill days and evenings that fall will bring, and we can hardly wait for both the album and the season to come around. Listen to the premiere of “Come On” above and pre-order Silver Currents here. - The Wild Honey Pie

"To The Wedding - Silver Currents"

Sometimes we’ll play a song on air that makes people stop, and we start getting emails and Twitter messages, “What was that?” This is one of those songs. To The Wedding releases Silver Currents EP on October 28, and the lead single has been generating buzz, both online and on our air.

Aching, delicate and longing, a blend of Mazzy Star and Chris Isaak twang, with a build that only takes you deeper into the trance, “Silver Currents” brings the feel more intently than any of the tracks on Mazzy Star’s latest LP. How is it possible that a young upstart writes more compelling music than many grizzled veterans? For one, Lauren Grubb has spent a good deal of time with the band Minipop, generating tuneful hazy melodies since 2007. But To The Wedding is no mere side project, or one hit wonder.

There’s a depth and shading, an attention to melodic detail here that is fully immersive. It takes only one listen to be hooked. We’re hoping for at least a West Coast tour, as this seems the kind of music you’d make a pilgrimage for. This is a spell best left unbroken.

"Listen: To The Wedding//Silver Currents"

Multi-instrumentalist Lauren Grubb has been producing music under her To The Wedding moniker for a few years now. Her 2010 Taken EP was an under-apreciated goldmine of dreamy, head-in-the-clouds wanderpop that, if you have the time, is well worth the $2 charge over on her bandcamp page.

Her debut full-length is now due in August, and Grubb has unveiled the first glimpse of it. ‘Silver Currents’ is nothing short of breathtaking. A slow-burning mini-epic that is part Chris Isaak, part Warpaint and in places not too far from the UK’s very own Marika Hackman. Slide guitar weaves in and out of another chiming guitar before reverb-washed drums build it up to its thrilling yet understated climax.

The best thing Grubb has put her name (or stage name at least) yet, ‘Silver Currents’ is five-and-a-half minutes you’ll happily surrender to To The Wedding. Over and over and over again.

Listen below. Also, much love to Crack In The Road for bringing this to our attention. xx - When The Gramophone Rings
