"Raves for Rules of the Road"

Tobin James (a.k.a. T.J. Weiss) is the main man in this Blues-rock band. This solid, ten-track CD of mostly original material is long on substance and short on pretension. The album was recorded in Dallas, and has the flavour of a Gregg Allman solo album, with some neat organ and tasteful backing vocals. This is particularly the case on songs like 'Blue Sky Lightning'. Tobin James has a gritty and soulful voice, (and) this is an album which benefits from repeated playing, where the phrasing and emotion in Weiss' voice becomes more and more appealing. The songs have that authentic and timeless Blues sensibility.

"Even Sports Guys Dig It!"

As the bastard son of the late great Freddie King, or maybe it's vice versa, I really like punching up your CD and Texas Cannonballing down the road in the truck... good work, my man!

"Letter From a Recent Festival (10/10/09)"

Tobin,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. We've been busy trying to catch up on all that we let go in preparation for the music fest. We were honored that you were available to play!

I am waiting to hear back from 2 radio contacts about their addresses where I should send the CDs to. But I plan on sending it to WDIY, WDVR and WXPN. DIY and DVR are public radio stations with blues shows and XPN is the U of Penn radio station that has a blues show. Once I receive the addresses, I will forward them to you with the name of the Blues DJ's. I do know that XPN's DJ is Jonny Meister. My contact at DVR has been Bluegrass Rose and my contact at DIY has been Alison DelRe.

We will definitely keep you in mind for future events. You put on a great show with great music and we appreciate your working with us so well these last few weeks. If there is anything we can do to help you get out there, let us know. Do you have facebook? If so, I'd be happy to forward any of your upcoming events to our friends/customers. We are at JohnnyMacs AmericanGrill or this email address.

Take care and looking forward to having you back!

Bio

Tobin James cut his teeth not on traditional Blues, but on the incendiary Blues/Rock sound of such legendary bands as Cream, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple. It wasn’t until attending the prestigious University of North Texas in the late 1980s that the future frontman of the Dallas bands Code Blue and Jaded Soul connected with the music of the great African-American Bluesmen who started it all, and sent him down his musical path firing on all cylinders. Today, all of those influences can be heard loud and clear in the powerful, full-throttle Blues and Blues/Rock of the Dallas native, Tobin James!

Tobin was a fixture on the Blues scene in Dallas for many years before relocating to New York City in 2007. His music has appeared in movie soundtracks (including “Mad, Bad – The Movie”, winner of the award for Best Independent Film at the LA Film Festival in 2006), and his most recent CD, “Rules of the Road” is distributed throughout North America by Global Journey, in cooperation with Allegro Music Distribution. Retail outlets that have picked up “Rules of the Road” include (but are not limited to) Virgin Megastores, Barnes & Noble, and Borders, and downloads are available on sites including iTunes.
