Todd Bird

BandPopRock

I am a published songwriter with a credit in a Merchant Ivory film. I write hooky power ballads and rock songs and am always looking to collaborate with other songwriters/artists.

Biography

Todd is a published songwriter residing in New York City.

Over the past 7 years, Todd has made a few important contacts. One such contact included a three-time Grammy Nominated songwriter/producer, whom Todd collaborated with on many of the songs you can listen to on this site - one such song is entitled "Dreaming", which is the feature song on the Merchant Ivory film soundtrack entitled "Heights" (distributed by Tommy Boy Records). "Dreaming" is also the debut song of new recording artist Suzy Malick, who also plays a memorable role in the film. Look for her first solo album release in the second half of 2008.

Todd has studied music with one of the music industry’s most respected and tireless members, Ann Ruckert, who has worked with greats such as Michel LeGrand, Barbra Streisand, Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, T Rex, and the Strawbs.

Todd, along with his good friend Aria Lee, has launched "Canadian Music, Eh?" on MySpace, which draws about 50 plays per day (slightly embellished for effect). Their goal is to continue helping as many unsigned Canadian artists gain super stardom as possibly.

You Never Felt the Crash

Written By: Todd Bird, Galia Arad

I couldn't find the words
I'd been stubborn and mostly to blame
You took my hands in yours
Then you kissed one of my tears away
I knew we'd be okay
We'd make up when you got back

You never felt the crash
Never saw the earth
Never heard a sound
How could I ever let you go
Where no one could catch you
Where I couldn't be found
You never felt the crash
Never saw the earth
Never felt the end
Nothing matters without you
Nothing ever makes sense

There's no escape at all
I replay you dying as I breathe
All the lights are on
Cause the dark brings out the memories
Your broken cell phone rings
You're missing my call again

You never felt the crash
Never saw the earth
Never heard a sound
How could I ever let you go
Where no one could catch you
Where I couldn't be found
You never felt the crash
Never saw the earth
Never felt the end
Nothing matters without you
Nothing ever makes sense

I keep dreading the nights
That's when I hear you scream my name
And I feel the broken glass
How, in only a moment, could I lose everything I had?

You never felt the crash
Never saw the earth
Never heard a sound
How could I ever let you go
Where no one could catch you
Where I couldn't be found
You never felt the crash
Never saw the earth
Never felt the end
Nothing matters without you
Nothing matters without you
You never felt the crash

Tonight I Honor You

Written By: Todd Bird

You're my superstar
And you make me proud
And it's now your turn to shine
I see your angel eyes so full of life
And your arms held open wide
Each tear that lines your face
Means more than anything said

Tonight I honor you
Everything I am is all because of you
You never stopped believing
In any road I'd choose
I thank you everyday for all you've done
Tonight I honor you

Felt like giving up
Wasn't good enough
But, your love made everything right
I've known for all these years
It was you who'd take me to here

Tonight I honor you
Everything I am is all because of you
You never stopped believing
In any road I'd choose
I thank you everyday for all you've done
Tonight I honor you

Pretending your dreams never mattered
All of my life you always took interest in mine
I couldn't believe that you loved me sometimes
You wanted the best for me

Tonight I honor you
Everything I am is all because of you
You never stopped believing
In any road I'd choose
Tonight I honor one so beautiful
Tonight I honor you

A part of you loves me

Written By: Todd Bird

Darling, I love many things about you
But, I'm so afraid
I'm always getting hurt too.
There are moments of doubt in life
But, one thing I know for sure

A part of you loves me
A part of you needs me
A part me wants to run and hide
A part of you knows me
And often controls me
A part of you holds your fears inside
A part of you loves me.
And that’s enough

Oh, babe, I've loved you for a long time
And I always will
I'll never let our love die
Don't believe in no fairy tales
But, what's in your heart is pure

A part of you loves me
A part of you needs me
A part me wants to run and hide
A part of you knows me
And often controls me
A part of you holds your fears inside
A part of you loves me.
And that’s enough

You're my destiny
You mean everything
My heart and my soul
Are beyond my control
And I can't believe
How good love can be
A timeless romance
Without the last dance
I can’t stop the way I’m feeling now

A part of you loves me
A part of you needs me
A part me wants to run and hide
A part of you knows me
And often controls me
A part of you holds your fears inside
A part of you loves me.
And that’s enough

Dreaming

Written By: Todd Bird, Larry Dvoskin, Suzy Malick

Dreams, ghosts scenes,
Play like a movie inside
My mind at the ending.

Time, whispers to me
Windows of memories
A child pretending.

Don’t want to stop dreaming
Don’t want to stop feeling
Don’t want to stop breathing to die
Just need to believe in the love and the lies
Of these jaded eyes.

Pain, does fade
Step out of the body and breathe
The silence in the beginning.

Don’t want to stop dreaming
Don’t want to stop feeling
Don’t want to stop breathing to die
Just need to believe in the love and the lies
Of these jaded

A black raven steals
The secret’s revealed
Facing the sun with one eye closed
You don’t exist
I can’t resist
In climbing to the top
Don’t want to stop

Don’t want to stop feeling
Don’t want to stop dreaming to die
Just need to believe in the love and the lies
Dreaming (don’t want to stop dreaming)
I’m dreaming (don’t want to stop feeling)
I’m feel’n (don’t want to stop breathing)
I’m breathing (to die)
This time
Just need to believe in the love and the lies
Of your jaded eyes.

Just Once

Written By: Todd Bird

Verse
Take a look at me just once
You can’t love me unseen
Give my burdened soul sunlight
In your eyes I am barely alive

Chorus
But, there’s something about you
I keep holding on to
I’m gonna tear down the walls that surround you
And open up heaven
Knowing forever there'll be just the two of us
If only you’d believe just once
Just once

Verse
Through revolving doors we go
Spinning out of control
Love’s the only hope we’ve got
But, I fear I’m in something you’re not

Chorus
But, there’s something about you
I keep holding on to
I’m gonna tear down the walls that surround you
And open up heaven
Knowing forever there'll be just the two of us
If only you’d believe just once

Bridge
You always hang your past on me
There’s a break in your heart that just won’t heal
Please, baby, let go
I would never leave you alone
Alone

Chorus
But, there’s something about you
I keep holding on to
I’m gonna tear down the walls that surround you
And open up heaven
Knowing forever there'll be just the two of us
If only you’d believe just once
Just once
Just once
Just once could you love me?
Just once could you touch me?
Could you hold me, baby
Just once could you know me?
Just once could you see me?
