Instrumental recordings are funny things. They’re great forums for musicians to show off their stuff. But they’re not always the best ways to get a political, spiritual, or nearly any other sort of message across. Todd Ferguson is an amazing guitar player, but this CD will hardly help you tell the differences between good and evil.

You get the feeling Ferguson aligns himself with Christianity in some manner, due to song titles like “No 666’s Here” and “Sinners Remorse.” At least he has a sense of humor, exemplified by the intentionally bad spelling of “Basssic Misstakes.”

It’s hard to describe Ferguson’s playing, which often sounds like rock and New Age sounds mixed together at the same time. Whatever it is, however, it’s good. At least this CD proves one thing in the good versus evil debate: Todd Ferguson’s guitar prowess is clearly a good thing.

Todd Ferguson is a Memphis area multi-instrumentalist who decided to handle his latest project himself from top to bottom, from start to finish, from soup to nuts, from the first note to the last note, and from the opening measure to the closing phrase. The result is his new CD, Good Vs. Evil, which features instrumental guitar tracks centered around some Christian themes, as evidenced by song titles such as "No 666's Here", "Heaven Bound", "Sinners Remorse" and the title track. Ferguson admits, "It is difficult to categorize this disc because it doesn't fit completely into any one category." His liner notes add, "For reading this in English, thank a Veteran." Interestingly, there are over 300 languages on the Internet - not counting dialects - and Jesus spoke Aramaic, the common language of Galilee during his lifetime.
