Biography

I hate band biographies. But they are necessary. At least I hope this one isn’t as pointless and predictable as the others.

I’m from the small town of Wooster, Ohio in the States. I have great parents; I never felt any need to rebel. Instead, I turned to music out of love for the music itself. I started playing electric guitar at some point and found that writing songs was my biggest passion. I admired the talent of some rock stars but never idolized them; I think it’s a myth that you need to be a drug-using, out-of-control, tortured soul in order to write good songs.

Along the way I’ve delved into several styles, but pretty much everything I write stems from rock ‘n roll, bluegrass and folk music. I never really cared much what people thought of my music. From my perspective, I only write music for myself—but I believe that performances are something I do for other people. So I will make my music the way I want it, following only my own vision. If people like it, then that’s great and I will do my best to give them a performance they will remember. I am fiercely protective of my music and passionately devoted to my fans at the same time.

I am a man of many interests and passions and these have led me to obtain far too many advanced degrees at universities in the US and UK. As I am finishing my PhD in mathematics, I decided to test the waters and see if music can be a more serious pursuit in my life. To that end, I have released my debut album, “Squirrel Hunter in Training” in July 2010.

“Squirrel Hunter in Training” is a collection of 35 songs spread over 2 CDs which gives a small sample but, I hope, a good representation of the rather large collection of songs which I’ve written over the past decade. The album was written, recorded, produced, engineered, arranged and mastered entirely by myself. I am a dictator at heart and full control was the only way to go for my debut album.

In my short history of live performances, the highlight so far has been playing at the ICA in London. But I’m hoping I can top that soon.

So if you like my music, and you want me to share more of it with you and play gigs in your city, then please buy my album, tell your friends, tell anyone who loves music, write reviews, try to help me get some publicity. My record contract is with my fans; if you support me, I’ll give you the best I can offer.

Lyrics

How Far & How Long

Written By: Todd Kuffner

Tell me what it is
Tell me what you want to see
And I'll try to be it
I'll try to be that thing
'Cuz your desires are like
Opportunities for me
To help an angel

Tell me what it is
Tell me what you need to hear
I'll find a way to mean it
I'll change the world the way you like
If only anything there was that
I could do
To melt your heart
That is hard for me

How far & how long must I go?
Without a taste of love fulfilled
Not bittersweet
The way I feel when you are near
Is love
And gives me reason to endure
Whatever comes

Tell me what it is
Tell me what your soul is missing
I will summon prophets
And teachers from the past
I won't sleep until you rest
I won't stop to catch my breath
Until you're breathing easy

How far & how long must I go?
Without a taste of love fulfilled
Not bittersweet
The way I feel when you are near
Is love
And gives me reason to endure
Whatever comes

If I may, if I may help--I will
Beside you I have everything I need
To go forward boldly
To face anything at all
And to flower together
More than we ever could alone

How far & how long must I go?
Without a taste of love fulfilled
Not bittersweet
The way I feel when you are near
Is love
And gives me reason to endure
Whatever comes
