"“Myers’ Music Gains Attention”"

“So, what makes Myers unique? The mellow singer-songwriter is not just another guitar-playing crooner. His versatility on the piano and guitar, combined with his distinctive, heartfelt voice, set him apart from the crowd.”

-Kara Dietrich - The Bates Student

"Music at Pingree"

"'Hour' Gang"

A mellow start to the weekend is on tap at the Den

Always a popular spot to meet, greet, and munch a burger, the Bobcat Den is even more the place to be during a weekly event dubbed simply "The Hour."

The kickoff of the traditionally raucous college weekend for many students, Friday night is a bit subdued for others who come downstairs to the Den to hear live music and share a cold draft beer and nachos or pizza with friends.

But The Hour isn't exclusively for students. It has also been a hit with staff, faculty, and their families, who enjoy the buffet meal, the music of Todd Myers '06, and the laid-back mood. It's a relaxed and orderly ambience that leaves one wondering whether role modeling might be part of the menu.

Indeed it is. "The intent is to provide a venue where people can come together to enjoy good food—and also to promote responsible drinking," says Dining Services director Christine Schwartz. "So far, it's worked really well."

Myers agrees. "A lot of professors will just have a drink and talk casually to students, and hang out and bring their partners," he says. "It's a very friendly atmosphere."

Essential to that atmosphere is Myers himself. This keyboardist-guitarist-singer-songwriter sounds a little like Dave Matthews, boasts solid writing chops and has developed a keen feel for the mood of the room.

Myers, who sells his self-produced CD online through CD Baby and Tower Records, credits The Hour with sharpening his marketing savvy and audience skills. "I started playing there my sophomore year, and I'd never had to really organize shows before," he says. "After graduation, I’m hoping to do what I do at the Den on a bigger scale—in Boston, say, or San Francisco."

PASSIONATE YOUNG SINGER-SONGWRITER GAINS
ATTENTION OF VENUES AND FILMMAKERS

As a recent college grad, dynamic singer-songwriter Todd Myers has spent most of the last four years writing and sharing his music with college crowds all over New England. Building on the growing popularity of other young singer-songwriters such as James Blunt and Damien Rice, Todd’s refreshing originality and powerful performances have won him a coveted place among college crowds.

An ambitious performer, Todd has built his fan base through a wide variety of shows, most notably a two-year position as the house performer for the popular Bates College pub and eatery, The Den. Further fueling his success, the recent release of his self-made debut album has gained the attention of venue owners, promoters, and an independent filmmaker who plans to feature his track “Struggle” in an upcoming film called “Death by Repetition.” In addition, Todd was just chosen by yet another independent filmmaker to compose the complete original score and soundtrack for the film “Grodmin.” Most recently, Todd has employed his creative piano talents by collaborating in the studio with fellow singer-songwriter Elizabeth Santy on her upcoming album, “Easy.”

Classified as a unique mix of acoustic driven Folk/Rock, Todd’s music has unmistakable presence and soul. Blending his mastery of the piano with acoustic guitar, smooth vocals, and poetic lyrics, Todd's gift for songwriting is impossible to deny. His songs speak passionately and powerfully, avoiding gratuitous fanfare, leaving only the irresistible emotional honesty that defines his music.

As he graduates from Bates College in May of 2006, Todd plans to relocate to Boston in order to take his music career to the next level through continued performance, composition, and recording.

AN IMPRESSIVE MUSICAL STATEMENT”
