Tom Dockray

Tom Dockray is a country, blues and old-time singer/songwriter from Melbourne, Australia (for readers in the northern hemisphere, Australia is an island continent somewhere south of Indonesia, known for eccentric wildlife and sunburnt tourists; often confused with Austria, a distant European place with much more attractive women and better beer).

His first EP, ‘Iron Suit’ was released in early 2014. It’s called 'Iron Suit' because it has a song about Ned Kelly, an Australian mythical figure who had a suit made out of Iron, but looked a little like a trash can helmet. He returns to the USA in the second half of 2014 to tour his new single 'Take Care' through Texas, Tennessee, Virginia and New York. 

Tom’s music has previously been lauded as “beautiful” by Wally De Backer (Gotye), and Tommy Emmanuel recently described his picking as “smokin'”. His debut 'Iron Suit' EP received 4 stars (out of 5) in Melbourne's Beat Magazine, and has had strong community radio support across Australia, with spins on 100+ stations to date. 

The music reflects strong influences from guitar heroes Merle Travis, Lightning Hopkins and Doc Watson, while his songwriting draws on several lifetimes worth of topsy turvy relationships and battles with booze.

His live show is an explosion of sweat, swagger and tears. Tom is one of those rare performers who completely captures the attention of anyone lucky enough to be drunk, stoned or sober at his show, and is equally at home on the big stage backed by his band or providing the vibe of the solo picker in the corner of the tiny dive bar on the rainiest night.
