Bio

Tom Melancon hails from Reno, Nevada.  In the early 1990's Tom played bass in "The Pods" with Derek and Dean Smith (Boston Wranglers and the Senders). The Pods, a psyco-surfabilly three piece, released two albums of original material, played extensively throughout the Reno/Tahoe area, received airplay on KTHX 100.1 in Reno and toured Northern California.
In the mid 90's, Tom and his brother Stephan formed Ghost Ranch, an alt-country  band with an Americana sound focusing on superior musicianship, vocals and tight harmonies.  David Highsmith played lead guitar and John Cagiula (Gunshot Licker) played drums.  Ghost Ranch recorded a self-titled CD with Bjorn Thorsrud (Smashing Pumpkins), recieved airplay on KTHX and played the bar and festival circuit in Reno.  In 2010-2012, Ghost Ranch reformed to record three additional songs with Bjorn in Chicago, Illinois.
Tom completed a song-writing Certificate Program at the University of Washington Extension College and the Experience Music Project in 2005.  The three course program was taught by Sean Nelson (Harvey Danger), Carrie Akre (Hammerbox) and Jon Auer (The Posies).
Tom released a five song EP in 2011 under the name Downward Facing Dude.

Tom also played electric bass for Angelo DelSenno and the Empty Sky from 2012-2014.  The band played an array of venues and clubs in Seattle and recorded an EP at London Bridge Studios with Producer Geoff Ott.  Guest Musicians included Davis Martin and Mathew Singler on Drums, Shane Rossmiller and Thadeus Turner on Guitar and Daniel Walker on Piano and Keyboards.

2012-2015- Tom played several folk gigs with stellar Nashville songwriter hero Mark Huff in Seattle, WA. Mark has generously offered to help Tom record his next album in Nashville, so Tom and Mark are scheming a way to make that happen.
