"'Silence Breaking Through Sound' - charity single from Tom Ryder"

Quietly thoughtful and equally heartbreaking, the new single from Tom Ryder – ‘Silence Breaking Through Sound’ – is an acoustic track which is breathtaking in its understatement. Written in response to the news that two family members were diagnosed with cancer, and how that makes everyday concerns fade into the background.

The track has a lovely build to a chorus which explodes into life, setting the scene for a song which crescendos from there. It ruminates on personal tidbits of information about those family members, even allowing a wry smile or two (‘I love you so much even though you read the Daily Mail’) as it charts a comparison between banal concerns and those facing a family in this situation. These moments, well observed, are no doubt the reason why Damien Rice is brought up in comparisons – another specialist in drawing out the dirty details of everyday heartbreak.

Released on April 19th through Right Track Records, ‘Silence Breaking Through Sound’ is also putting its money where its mouth is, with Tom Ryder donating proceeds to the single to the Macmillan Cancer Trust who helped his family through a difficult time. A great song and a great cause? You can’t go wrong. - trisickle

"Tom Ryder releases new single 'Desk Job'"

Essex-based singer-songwriter Tom Ryder has unveiled 'Desk Job,' the new single lifted from his recent 'Strings Attached' EP. The energetic three minute track offers a tongue-in-cheek exploration of the daily 9 to 5 grind alongside infectious folk-pop melodies & soaring vocals.

A musician since his teenage years, Tom has enjoyed a stellar start to his career as a solo artist. Influenced by classic singer-songwriter staples John Martyn, Damien Rice & Tracy Chapman, his songs have been quick to make an impression with influential media tastemakers. BBC Introducing in Cambridge, BBC Essex and BBC Three Counties Radio have playlisted Tom’s songs and invited him in for live sessions, and the EP title track 'Strings Attached' has already been heard on the airwaves of 39 BBC regional stations as Track Of The Week on the Mark Forrest Show. Last year’s beautiful charity single 'Silence Breaking Through Sound' not only showcased heartfelt, emotive songwriting and raised over £9000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, but also gained celebrity praise & approval from Chris Evans and Rod Stewart when they watched a live performance of the song. Despite the life experience as a part-time journalist he brings to the wry lyrics of 'Desk Job,' it’s surely only a matter of time before Tom Ryder is known for a very different full-time profession as a talented singer-songwriter.

Tom will be playing shows & festivals in support of the EP this summer. For more info, head to http://www.tomaryder.com. - Press Party
