"Glenrothes group set to show charitable spirit"

A GLENROTHES music blogger has put together a band from his favourite acts to raise money for charity.

Thomas Bird, also known as ‘T-Bird’, got together some of his local musician friends to form ‘Thomas Bird and the Blonde Spirit’.

The super-group, made up of band members from the Manikees, Saint Kilda (formerly Sergeant) and the Rioteers, with Bird himself on vocals, will soon release an album with all proceeds going to Marie Curie Cancer Care.

A taster is expected to be available online from April before the album is due to be released in May.

We're in the middle of mixing the album with Ryan McHugh at Monomen studios and things are going really well...potential date for release will be mid to late May 2011.

Bio

There was a charity initiative at my work in 2009 where a handful of amateur writers collated several short stories and poems together and self published a book called "The Small Print". All profits went to the British Heart Foundation and raised around £10,000.00.

This proud achievement gave me the idea of trying something similar myself, but instead of short stories and poems, i decided this time to try my hand at writing some music. So over the past year, myself and Bill Anderson recorded the demos that were to make up the charity album "The Cut".

Of course, by the time we were done, these simple acoustic tunes were just the bare bones of what they could be and severely needed fleshing out. The only way to achieve this was to let some of Fife's finest musicians listen to them. It was much to my surprise that they went down so well and with that Mike Graham, Craig Hewitt, Harry Krishna and Scott Gourlay jumped on board to help me...and so The Blonde Spirit was born.

The charity i've chosen is the Marie Curie fund as it leaves me filled with dread to think of people with no family rotting away on their own. Having read up on this charity, i think our donation could do some real good.

Yours sincerely,

Tomas Bird
