"NXNE Review: June 13 at THE CRAWFORD"

The Crawford (718 College St) was awash tonight with a mixed bag of hip hop heads and fantastically costumed partygoers.
After Toronto rapper Tomasi (dubbed a “captivating Toronto MC taking a hard-hitting Rick Ross or 50 Cent –style approach to contemporary hip hop”) took to the stage and left.... - Cadence Canada

"Best of Both worlds"

RAPPER TOMASI BRINGS TORONTO AND BROOKLYN TOGETHER THROUGH MUSIC
Written by Jonathan Brown

There is an odd paradox in Tomasi's voice. He exudes a Canadian's understanding of an American game. A Torontonian's awareness with an acute New yorker's accent. Raised by his mother in Toronto for half his life and raised by his father in Brooklynfor the other, Tomasi has used his experience straddling the border to gain the best of bothe worlds.
When talking neighbourhoods, Tomasi sees more similarities than differences between his homes in East flatbush, Brooklyn and Sparroway & Brahms in northeast Toronto. It is the vision of the communities and the way of life in subsidized housing that is most familiar to the rapper.
'I was a latch-key kid meaning when I came home no one was home for a couple hours until a parent came home," says Tomasi, ho identifies wwith many youth from both neighbourhoods challenged everydayby such independence.
However, on the music side, there's a clear distinction between his to hometowns, he adds. He sees the in-fighting between Canadian artists as counterproductive because the infrastructure in Canada is not parallell to the U.S and cannot sustain and grow without co-operation.
"Right now, at this level people should be trying to get together rather than fighting for grounds."
On the flipside, the U.S has grown with hip-hop for so long that the game can be about 'who's the best?' rather than trying to help each other. Tomasi's choice angle is oh-so-BIG-apple.
"In New York, it's all about making youself bigger than life. What I try to do is bring it bigger than life. Anything that i do, I put alot of money into it and let people know that I'm investing in myself 'cause ain't nobody investing in me. So it plays in people's minds.

Bio

Tomasi is the hottest emerging artist coming out of Toronto. Raised in the Brahms/Sparrowway Housing Projects and Brooklyn's East Flatbush, Tomasi speaks on his reality on life in the streets. Tomasi's captivatng lyrical content and rhythmic flow leaves crowds and his peers in awe, wanting more. In other word's, Tomasi is a MC's MC.

Though firmly planted in the imagery of his predecessors (Nas, Jay-z, 50 Cent), Tomasi brings a fresh perspective to the urban scene. Tomasi explains, "Hip-hop's a game where you gotta keep ya eye on da ball or ya gon' miss; and I can't afford ta miss."

Working with the industry's top producers, including Cardiak (Lloyd Banks "Start It Up", Rick Ross' "600 Benz" Meek Mill's' "Ain't Gonna Sleep", "Lean Wit It", Fabolous' "Y'all Don't Hear Me Tho", "Da Realest", "BlackBird, 50 Cent's "Outlawz", Joe Budden, Tony Yayo, Young Chris...way too many names too long to mention), Product ("Capital P, Capital H" on Mobb Deep's "Blood Money" Lloyd Banks Hunger For More), Tone Mason (Drake's "Light It Up", Fantasia's "Hood Boy"), and 8Track (50Cent's "You A Killa...Cool" off of his mixtape "Lost Tapes" hosted by DJ Drama) Tomasi has gained the respect of heavy hitters in the game. Evidence of this can be seen in his collaborations with artists, such as Vado, in "Lights Camera, Action". Vado is one of New York's latest bursting Rap stars that has recently signed with Intersope , via Cam'Ron. French Montana's "Coke Boys" Chinx Drugz, Tomasi goes hard on self-produced "Chill". Tomasi's new collaborative hit "Goin in", featuring Young Money's Jae Millz and Produced by Cardiak, has video viewers and dj's buzzing. Now, Tomasi has just put the finishing touches on his new hit, "Nite Rida" featuring Jadakiss! Again working with hit-making Super-Producer Cardiak, this song is bound to put all competition to rest!

At a time where Toronto's music scene is exploding, the streets create a conduit to new talent. Tomasi doesn't depend on smoke and mirrors; what you see is what u get. Canada put the caution tape up; Tomasi's GOIN' IN!!!
