Tom Bloch

Tom Bloch was born in 1999 in the city of Porto Alegre, in the south of Brazil. The band started out as a solo project by Pedro Verissimo - a studio experiment with no pretension - but soon grew bigger.
By the time the first demo was released (Demo Deluxe - Independent/2000), Tom Bloch was already a fully formed, real band. Guitars, bass and drums completed the sound, adding body to all the electronic experimentations done in studio.
This mixture of electronic and rock, of organic and inorganic sounds, marked the band’s first album (Tom Bloch - Distribuidora Independente Trama/2003) and still is one of its main characteristics.
Opposing feelings and frailties with the often hard and indifferent landscapes of any big, modern city, Tom Bloch speaks of human relations - sentimental or not - of mismatches, new beginnings, sex, fear and loneliness.
The contemporary, urban sound is hard to define in one word or style. A gauche pop, a non-traditional rock that goes perfectly well with the anguished and usually ironic lyrics written by Verissimo - not by accident the son of Luis Fernando Verissimo, one of Brazil’s greatest writers.
After many different formations, Tom Bloch today is Pedro Verissimo on vocals and Iuri Freiberger on drums and programming. Two of the most interesting musicians on Rio de Janeiro’s music scene were invited to take part on the recording of the second album (Tom Bloch 2 - Som Livre Apresenta/2008): Patrick Laplan (former member of “Los Hermanos”) playing bass and Junior Tostoi (Lenine) playing guitars.
