"Breaking Event News: Tom Carty Saturday Night"

You know that feeling you get when you see an artist and know they are about to make it big? Well, Tom Carty definitely gives you that feeling.

On his way to the UK to start his tour, he was unexpectedly kicked out of the country for visa issues. So he now finds himself in Zurich and is throwing a last minute gig at Westside Cafe. If it's anything like the impromptu gig he played on Wednesday night, expect a great live performance, a lot of expats and a ton of fun. Also, listen to his MGMT cover below - it's awesome. - Full Stop: Zurich

Bio

It’s taken years of patience, persistence and a hint of perfectionism but Australian born singer/songwriter Tom Carty has finally produced something he feels is now worthy of backing his years of live performance experience. With the help of fantastic Melbourne based producer Cameron McKenzie his first independent album “Roll The Dice” is the end result.

Whilst his endearing style of songwriting is very unique Tom admits he has gathered much inspiration from a range of his major influences. Think Paul Kelly storytelling, a powerful, evocative voice not unlike that of David Gray, infused with a coastal vibe in the mold of Jack Johnson.

Born and raised in Western Victoria Tom grew up with both sporting and musical influences. However, it was not until after school that he began to steer away from sport and in the direction of music. Either way Tom was never going to settle for an average lifestyle! This just wasn’t going to sit well with him. With this relentless ambition to dream and make something of his life instead of joining the rat-race he decided to pick up an old guitar that he found stashed away at his parent’s new home in Queensland.

Tom’s natural inclination and musical ear inspired him to quickly teach himself the basics also adding the harmonica to his repertoire. He performed his first gig up on The Whitsunday Islands soon after, playing a number of his favourite covers along with some early originals and the rush of playing live inspired a whole new journey. Full-time work became part-time as he devoted more and more time to his dream.

Tom has since performed around Australia, Japan, Thailand and Europe including 3 years in London playing at venues such as Mahiki in Mayfair and a handful of festivals supporting the likes of Feeder and The Parlotones.

Don’t be fooled by Tom’s youthful looks! His lyrics are both heartfelt and ridiculously catchy. They compel the listener with an honest sincerity and a maturity that could only transpire from plenty of real life experience. Currently back in Australia Tom’s determination to get his name out there and follow his passion is about to reach the next level as he brings his beachy ballads and clever wordplay to the music world!
