Biography

It’s taken years of patience, persistence and a hint of perfectionism but Australian born singer/songwriter Tom Carty has finally produced something he feels is now worthy of backing his years of live performance experience. With the help of fantastic Melbourne based producer Cameron McKenzie his first independent album “Roll The Dice” is the end result.

Whilst his endearing style of songwriting is very unique Tom admits he has gathered much inspiration from a range of his major influences. Think Paul Kelly storytelling, a powerful, evocative voice not unlike that of David Gray, infused with a coastal vibe in the mold of Jack Johnson.

Born and raised in Western Victoria Tom grew up with both sporting and musical influences. However, it was not until after school that he began to steer away from sport and in the direction of music. Either way Tom was never going to settle for an average lifestyle! This just wasn’t going to sit well with him. With this relentless ambition to dream and make something of his life instead of joining the rat-race he decided to pick up an old guitar that he found stashed away at his parent’s new home in Queensland.

Tom’s natural inclination and musical ear inspired him to quickly teach himself the basics also adding the harmonica to his repertoire. He performed his first gig up on The Whitsunday Islands soon after, playing a number of his favourite covers along with some early originals and the rush of playing live inspired a whole new journey. Full-time work became part-time as he devoted more and more time to his dream.

Tom has since performed around Australia, Japan, Thailand and Europe including 3 years in London playing at venues such as Mahiki in Mayfair and a handful of festivals supporting the likes of Feeder and The Parlotones.

Don’t be fooled by Tom’s youthful looks! His lyrics are both heartfelt and ridiculously catchy. They compel the listener with an honest sincerity and a maturity that could only transpire from plenty of real life experience. Currently back in Australia Tom’s determination to get his name out there and follow his passion is about to reach the next level as he brings his beachy ballads and clever wordplay to the music world!

Liz's Song

Written By: Tom Carty

Lizabyloo
why’d you have to throw me into the water
My breaths are so much shorter without you
And as for you
compared to me you’ve always been so much stronger
Carrying on without your mother, only you
Just a fragile girl in search of truth

But I still can’t understand
how you could so hastily replace me
And I wish that when I walked out your door
you’d have come outside and chased me
but you stayed
and made me who I am today
but Lizabyloo
I think I’m still in love with you

Lizabyloo
Why’s it seem that all the stars should disappear
Now that you’re no longer here
I miss you
And why is it you
I have to see everytime you’re walking down the high street
With your new man in toe
On the end of his big feet
You’re so happy and complete
Look at you
You and your brand new shoes

and you’d think I’d be used to being replaced
It’s happened two times before you
And you can call me Good Luck Chuck
But losing you hurt so much more
You’re ok
But I can’t take the pain away
Lizabyloo
You left me lost in London zoo

It’s been 12 months now, 365 days
52 weeks now since you walked away
it’ll be 18 months in May
and I hope I’ll see it through
but I’ll probably still feel the same way
about you

Lizabyloo
why’d you have to throw me into the water
My breaths are so much shorter

But I still can’t understand
how you could so hastily replace me
And I wish that when I walked out your door
you’d have come outside and chased me
but you stayed
and made me who I am today
Lizabyloo
I think I’m still in love with you
I think I’m still in love with you
I think I’m still in love with you

Same Same But Different

Written By: Tom Carty

We’re all here
In this so called paradise
Eating nothin but coconut cream,
Curry and rice, well now
Don’t you get consumed
By the food that you eat here
Or your judgement clouded by
the buckets of Sangsom and Singha beer

We’re all here for a good time not a long time
Where wounds are healed
With a slice of lime
It may sting a little
but not as much as this one
Don’t let your delicate heart
Move to the beat of this drum

You may come down
With a terrible stomach bug
Coz love is so dangerous here
Like a spiked up drink with a date drug
I may crash my moped
Coz girl you’re looking so fine
Yeah you’re so beautiful girl
But I’m not gonna love you long-time

We’re all here for a good time not a long time
Where wounds are healed
With a slice of lime
It may sting a little
but not as much as this one
Don’t let your delicate heart
Move to the beat of this drum

Boys kiss girls
And girls kiss boys
And sometimes boys kiss ladyboys
But when you’re under influence
It’s all same same but different

We’re all here for a good time not a long time
Where wounds are healed
With a slice of lime
It may sting a little
But not as much as this one so
Don’t let your delicate heart
Move to the beat of this drum

Oslo

Written By: Tom Carty

You gave me wings
And I began to fly
You lifted me so high
I think I touched the sky
I know quite soon
These wings will fall apart
And just like a lead balloon
You know I’ll come down hard
Your bags are packed and at the doorway
Why do you have to be the girl from Norway

Now baby
Don’t wake me up in the morning
you know I won’t get no sleep
Just catch me when I’m fallin
Coz you know you cut me deep
Don’t wake me up in the morning
you know I won’t get no sleep
Just catch me when I’m fallin
Coz you know you cut me deep

When I think about
Your deep blue eyes
And your silky golden hair
It maes me fantasise
Coz when we make love
It’s more like make believe
And I’m scared to know
That you’re gonna have to leave
This Aussie sun could’ve been our saviour
But the midnight sun’s in Scandinavia

Now baby
Don’t wake me up in the morning
you know I won’t get no sleep
Just catch me when I’m fallin
Coz you know you cut me deep
Don’t wake me up in the morning
you know I won’t get no sleep
Just catch me when I’m fallin
Coz you know you cut me deep

I know I’ll be cold when you go
But it won’t be cold like winter in Oslo

Don’t wake me up in the morning
you know I won’t get no sleep
Just catch me when I’m fallin
Coz you know you cut me deep
Don’t wake me up in the morning
you know I won’t get no sleep
Just catch me when I’m fallin
Coz you know you cut me deep

The Music

Written By: Tom Carty

Hey there boy you’re going to fast
Get caught up you just won’t last yeah you’ll lose it
Won’t you listen to the music

Hey there man stop complaining
Go on like that you’ll do your brain in you loser
Won’t you listen to the music
Said won’t you kick back relax
and listen to the music

Hey there girl play with your hair
What if I said that I did not care
You’d abuse me
But I’d listen to the music
So save your energy save your breath
There are your problems then there’s death
Would you choose it
Or would you listen to the music
Said won’t you kick back relax
And listen to the music

Won’t you listen to the music
Listen to the music
Too much abusing
Battering bruising
Don’t let you sole
consume the fumes of the new day
Won’t you listen to the music

Look at your car
Look at your style
Don’t you know it only lasts awhile
Then you lose it
But there’ll always be music
Said won’t you kick back relax and listen to
kick back relax and listen to
kick back relax and listen to the music
Listen to the music

Roll The Dice

Written By: Tom Carty

Who’s gonna care in a year if I die
There’ll be no one no one
Who’s gonna give you shit if you try
There’ll be no on no one
Who’s gonna catch the tears when you cry
There’ll be no one no one
So go ahead wipe those tears from your eyes
There’ll be no one to change it but you

Who’s gonna care if I lose the fight
There’ll be no one yeah no one
Who can express the songs that I write
There’ll be no one yeah no one but me
Who’s gonna sympathise with the guy
Who hates his job and his wife
Yeah the same guy who cares what he drives
Has just chosen the path of his life

So roll the dice
Before you see yourself disintegrating
And leave behind
A mediocre life for something greater
You don’t live twice
So rewrite the script it’s not too late yeah
In time you’ll find
That time waits for no one yeah no one

Who gonna tell me I’m wrong or I’m right
There’ll be no one yeah no one but me
Who’s gonna see the whites of your eyes
When you’re telling yourself your white lies
Yeah they’re eating you deep inside
Coz you realize that you haven’t tried
Yeah who stays awake late at night
There’ll be no one yeah no one

So roll the dice
Before you see yourself disintegrating
And leave behind
A mediocre life for something greater
You don’t live twice
So rewrite the script it’s not too late yeah
In time you’ll find
That time waits for no one yeah no one

No one (echoes)

So roll the dice
Before you see yourself disintegrating
And leave behind
A mediocre life for something greater
You don’t live twice
So rewrite the script it’s not too late yeah
In time you’ll find
That time waits for no one yeah no one
Time waits for no one yeah no one

Grey London Skies

Written By: Tom Carty

Staring out across the sea
Orange sunsets ocean breeze
But when I look into your eyes
You’re more beautiful under grey London skies

Confusion and uncertainty
They play with my mind constantly
Is this really paradise
Or are you more beautiful under grey London skies

Too much water flows beneath this bridge we built
Will you catch the fish and leave me there to drown
And as the flames climb high above this bridge we built
Will we just sit back and let it all burn down
And in time will we be fine
That I’m not yours and you’re not mine
Coz I don’t want this love to die
I don’t want to say goodbye
Under grey London skies

I’ve met all the pretty girls
From all the corners of this world
But when I look into your eyes
You’re more beautiful under grey London skies

Under grey London skies, under grey London skies
Under grey London skies, under grey London skies

Summertime Blues

Written By: Tom Carty

Everybody cram into my box of rust
Windows down, the AC’s bust
And we’ll all put up with breathin in the fumes and dust
Coz we know it’s the start of the summer

Can’t find a space in the parking lot
Can’t find my flip flops, the sand’s too hot
But there’s no denying we’re in the right spot
For the barbecues, drinking beers and all the
beautiful girls on the avenue
Beautiful girls staring back at you
Beautiful silicon beaches too
Well I know it’s time to sing the summertime blues

I’ve got cuts on my foot from the sharp sea shells
Look in the mirror, “you’ve fried yourself well”
Jumpin in the shower they’ll sting like hell
But you know it’s just part of the summer

Go out to town just to try your luck
Yeah everybody’s ready to run a muck
If you, get to drunk you could come unstuck
But as long as I get home I don’t give a…

Coz we’ve got beautiful girls on the avenue
Beautiful girls staring back at you
Beautiful silicon beaches too
Well I know it’s time to sing the summertime blues
You can see it on the summertime news
That’s when I like to hang with you
Coz we know we’ve got nothing to lose

You can see it on the summertime news
That’s when I like to hang with you
Coz we know we’ve got nothing to lose
Hey hey we’ll sing the summertime blues
We’ll sing the summertime blues
We’ll sing the summertime blues

Goodbye Girl

Written By: Tom Carty

Goodbye Girl, This old world,
Well I know you’ve had it tough
laying blame, naming names,
Yeah we know enough’s enough

Never sure, insecure
I received a dozen fines
Notes and looks as long as books
But we read between the lines

Like a bird
you accidentally flew right into
My room
so I tried to offer more than I could give you
But I don’t have space for two
So i’ve opened the doors and all the windows
fly away
but don’t you leave without saying goodbye girl

You and I, We will fly
But it won’t be hand in hand
And who knows, where we’ll go,
Well in time we’ll understand

Koya San, Vietnam,
All this history makes it hard
These charades, masquerades
When we should’ve shown our cards

Like a bird
you accidentally flew right and
Like a fool
I tried to offer more than I could give you
But I don’t have space for two
So i’ve opened the doors and all the windows
fly away
but don’t you leave without saying goodbye girl
don’t you leave without saying goodbye

Like a bird
you accidentally flew right and
Like a fool
I tried to offer more than I could give you
But I don’t have space for two
So i’ve opened the doors and all the windows
fly away
but don’t you leave without saying goodbye girl
don’t you leave without saying goodbye girl
You’re my goodbye girl
You’re my goodbye girl

Chocolate

Written By: Tom Carty

Why would you throw something in my lunchbox
that I can not eat
all I want to see inside
is a melted special treat
I’ll eat all my healthy food
If the incentive is good
I hope we’ve got this understood
Chocolate is the only thing to change my mood

Where do you think all the kids at school
Get the energy to play
It’s because their Mumma gives them chocolate every day

I love chocolate
Please give me some of that when I get home from school today
I love chocolate
And I’d eat it for every meal if I had my way

Now sticky situations
Lead to messy complications
Or so I have been told
But it’s the only situation where a sticky messy face and hands
Is acceptable coz it’s delectable
The Easter Bunny he is fine
Gives me lots of chocolate at Easter time
Melted down or freezing cold
I don’t care if it’s too old

Where do you think all the kids at school
Get the energy to play
It’s because their Mumma gives them chocolate every day

I love chocolate
Please give me some of that when I get home from school today
I love chocolate
And I’d eat it for every meal if I had my way
I love chocolate oh oh
I love chocolate oh oh
I love chocolate oh oh
Yeah
Chocolate oh oh

Storms

Written By: Tom Carty

Ever since I was a young boy
I’d lie awake in my bed
And listen to the thunder as it crashed around my head
I’d peak straight through the curtain crack
Until I saw the flash
Then I’d dive back underneath my sheets
As the sky began to crash

I can see lighting on the horizon
Dampness in the air
This storm is gonna make you feel warm
I’m gonna sit and watch it in my chair
Lightning on the horizon
Let the breeze blow through your hair
This storm is gonna make you look warn out
But I don’t even care, yeah yeah yeah

Raindrops on the window sill
and it’s filling up the gage
you asked me what came over me
it was the storms that set the stage
there’s a funny feeling that I get
when the rainclouds start to crack
then I feel like making love to you
that’s when it’s time to hit the sack

I can see lighting on the horizon
Dampness in the air
This storm is gonna make you feel warm
I’m gonna sit and watch it in my chair
Lightning on the horizon
Let the breeze blow through your hair
This storm is gonna make you look warn out
But I don’t even care, yeah yeah yeah

What you doing tonight girl
Be careful driving in the wet
Destination’s my place baby
I’ll have the table set
Davey loves the high life
Jimmy digs the fumes
But me, I love the simple things
Like a grey cloud over my room

I can see lighting on the horizon
Dampness in the air
This storm is gonna make you feel warm
I’m gonna sit and watch it in my chair
Lightning on the horizon
Let the breeze blow through your hair
This storm is gonna make you look warn out
But I don’t even care, yeah yeah yeah

It’s gonna piss down
It’s gonna piss down
I won’t be missing out
On a thing tonight
