"TOM CARY LP REVIEW MONDOSONORO"

Mondosonoro, number 158 p. 36, January, 2009. By Arturo García. Tom Cary “ That's right! Clean your soul” ( Anewlabel Records 2008)

“With a very similar speech to The Velvet Underground, The Stooges or Bob Dylan, Tom Cary slides with mastery down a thin wire that separates the thunder of guitars and the peace of a folk sound as sweet as poisoned candy in songs like “Oh! Hairdresser”

"TOM CARY "ILLUMINIST ROCK""

Universolobueno, online review, December 29th, 2008.

"Tom Cary: Rock Iluminado"

http://sololobueno.com/2008/12/29/tom-cary-rock-iluminado/

“A band as Tom Cary and a work as “That's right! Clean your soul” (2008, Anewlabel Records) should make us reject the widespread view that nobody knows how to do authentic rock & roll in this country (Spain). I will say that it's only rock & roll with blues and gospel sparkles and that is natural and comprehensive, with calm and tempest moments brought on by the guts of three truly musicians. By the way, there are just 8 songs in the album, but what's good, when brief, is twice as good." - WWW.SOLOBUENO.COM

"TOM CARY "ROCK INTENSITY""

Spinner.com, online review. "Tom Cary: intensidad rock", February 7th, 2009. By Almudena Zazo.

"Tom Cary became popular thanks to a straight, impeccable hit, "Energy never disappears, only gets transformed", and now they try to endorse their success with a faultless debut entitled "That's right! Clean your soul" (Anewlabel, 08), more convincing with only eight tracks than the whole discography of many other bands." - WWW.SPINNER.COM

"A RECOMMENDED DISCOGRAPHY"

Tom Cary “That's right! Clean your soul” ( Anewlabel Records 2008)

http://seriebfanzine.blogspot.com/2008/10/discografa-recomendable-tom-cary.html

"Tom Cary's music shows itself in a very personal, mature and risky way, something uncommon for a band making their debut. Tom Cary has released a great album, and now that we are bereft of Manta Ray, everyone should take this into account." - www.seriebfanzine.blogspot.com

"ROCK AL PARQUE 2009.TOM CARY"

Rock al parque 2009( Bogota Colombia) by Vladimir Uscategui.

Tom Cary, in my opinion, the best band of the festival – if Fito Páez excuses me- offered an intense show which did not feel intimidated at all before the prejudice of an audience who hardly knew about them.Explosive and elusive (nobody knew how to class them), they looked like a kind of Einstürzende Neubauten playing John Spencer Blues Explosion´s repertoire or Skinny Puppy recreating the eccentricities of The Contortions. Or even the most industrial Big Black. As the news bulletin from Rock al Parque said “they sound like the Stooges through the laptop of Ryoji Ikeda. We could go on giving names indefinitely trying to class them, but unsuccessfully, they´re unique.
In the press conference, and answering my question, they mention some of their influences: Ornette Coleman, The Velvet Underground and, of course, Big Black, making it clear that they don´t copy the “savoir-faire” of the bands above mentioned but try to capture the spirit of this music, the best in the last 30 years. In conclusión, rock with punk attitude, noisy guitars in the style of Arto Lindsay, compositions which collect the tradition of the most dirty and sexual rock, free jazz percusions and plenty of noise.Pablo Garrido, rude vocalist and excessive drummer, was wearing a Big Black T-shirt, an unforgettable referente considering that the trio recorded their first album with the well-known Steve Albini in Chicago (in their words, a record that was recorded mostly live in 6 days). The last performance of the vocalist/drummer Pablo Garrido deserves a special mention: in a powerful ecstasy he finishes the show in a way I thought just John Spencer could.Tireless and out of mind, Pablo Garrido ends up getting of the stage, sweaty, with her shirt open showing without his prominent tummy without embarrassment, shouting and banging endlessly the cimbals of his drums, jumping over the security barriers in the press area, the VIP area, getting to the audience, astonished, witnessing an energy display never seen in Rock al Parque. At the same time Javi Muñoz try to come back from the shock with his bass on the floor like mad and Fran Verdugo gave lessons with his guitar about “how to exorcise a guitar”. Pure electric power, pure excess, pure rock n´roll, that´s it.( This is as it would have to be, and almost never is, rock n’ roll in 2009). Astonishing, After them, did not go back to grow the grass in the Stage Lake.

Cronica Rock al parque 2009 ( Bogota Colombia.) Por Vladimir Uscategui. WWW.ENPASTO.COM
Mientras tanto, Javi Muñoz trataba de reponerse - www.empasto.com by Wladimir Uscategui

Bio

Tom Cary are believers of the "do it yourself" with a hardworking and combative perspective. They´ve become one of the most interesting projects sprung from the Spanish underground thanks to their sound and attitude. Powerful, percusive, mutant, raw, electric, pure and exciting are some of the adjectives used to describe their live shows and recordings. Steve Albini produced their first album, "That´s right! Clean your soul" in 2008. In 2009 they have released "Grace of the pure hearts", a compilation of b-sides and rarities from their first period. They are planning the recording of their second studio album with Steve Albini in 2010. Despite not being well-known for the big audience, the 2008-2009 tour included 60 shows around the world, all of which were possible thanks to the support of an audience who love music in its pure state. They´ve taken part successfully in festivals such as South by Southwest SXSW 2009 (Austin EE.UU), Rock al Parque 2009 (Bogotá, Colombia), FIB Benicassim 2006 ( Castellon Spain), FNB 2009 (Caracas Venezuela), Bienale Internationale (Bari, Italia, 2008), etc. More info
