"About Tom's guitar playing"

Guitarist/vocalist Tom Cavanagh is a super talented hybrid of a musician, a fusion of John Mclaughlin, Eddie Van Halen and George Harrison, with the proportion of influences constantly shifting.

"About Tom's guitar playing 2"

Tom Cavanagh produces a deft mixture of melody and aggression! - Musicians Exchange

"About Tom"

Long Island Live
Cavanagh, who performed with Sons Of Infinity (bassist Dan Christie and drummer Gary Loock), brought his own considerable musical experience to the stage. Cavanagh has a command of the guitar that most people twice his age could only hope to achive. Basically, this is a case study of a "natural musician." Having gotten to know Cavanagh during the past several months, I can also say that his positive attitude has served him well. Watching both his instrumental band and Wardance in action, one gets a sense of Cavanagh's ability to help bring out the best in his fellow musicians, through a sense of musical exploration rather than veiled competition. - Long Island Live

"About Tom's record with The Sons Of Infinity"

The Sons Of Infinity
A Journey Through Infinity- Accomac Records
If the terminology "player's players" means anything to you, it won't take long for you to head to the record store to look for indie marvels, The Sons Of Infinity. Tacking the "player's universe" from fusion to songs that border on Celtic Mysticism and instrumental classical/hard rock marriage, T.S.O.F. is a vibrant plate of steaming guitar-driven mind food.
Guitarist Tom Cavanagh (who co-produced with Bob Van Der Mark and Pete Benjamin) knows how to lay out magnetic backdrops for his soaring leads. For anybody who was weened on Jeff Beck or Ronnies Montrose's instrumental work, this band is going to be a slice of heaven. Bassist Dan Chrstie and drummer Gary Loock are also visionary players and the instrumental prowess across the boards is n\mesmerizing.
To break the CD'd songs, like "Scrambled Eggs And Mustard," "Slice Of Five," "Come To My Heart" or "Distracted," down, would be silly. Suffice to say that from the opening electrical fire strom of "prelude To Infinity" to the closing, mind-expanding sonic journey of "In The Spirit Of The Electric Guitar," this is an instrumental albulm that alters the stream of cionsciousness of the listener, it transports you to a place full of soft clouds, imposing thunder and an air that all is possible. There are, pardon the pun, infinite moods and shadings here, and the guitar-driven pieces expose guys like Yngwie Malmsteen for what they are, self-indulgent bores. Nothing's wasted note-wise, this is all meat and no fat, just enough to be flashy, never too little to keep you airborne as you soak it in.
The Sons Of Infinity are an outstanding entity, player's players in an age when just-about-nothing in the way of musicianship is acceptable. For those that seek inventive riffing and mastery of one's instrument in their music, T.S.O.F. are an oasis a desert of modern dirt.

"About Tom's record with The Sons Of Infinity 2"

The Sons Of Infinity, A Journey Through Infinity:
Rock fusion influences are stamped all over this CD. All the songs are instrumentals. with a heavy emphasis on the guitar in the way Joe Satriani or Eric Johnson would do it. Clever use of time signatures and scorching guitar riffs are aimed at the listener with deadly accuracy; guitarist Tom Cavanagh need not stand the shadow of his contemporaries. Each song is skillfully crafted and flawlessly executed, with the rhythm section of bassist Don Christie and drummer Gary Loock secound to none. If rock fusion is your kind of music, then The Sons Of Infinity is your kind of band. -JR

"Tom Cavanagh with Sweetspot"

Sweet Spot
If nothing else, Sweet Spot singer Kristen Gray knows how to seduce her listeners. Never mind the provocative striptease in her stageshow or the bullet-bra-with-butterfly-wings cover photo pastiche: it's the sultry anis oplin-meets-Kim Carnes rasp of her smokey alto that makes Gray the undeniable star of this Long Island-bassed funck-rock outfit. But if Sweet Spot are selling sex (and believe me they are), it's just Gray's way of getting you to buy a ticket to her all-night 70's-chic love-fest. And who wouldn't want to take this downtown-diva dancing 'til dawn? "U Turn Me On" has a singalong chorus and four-on-the-floor disco groove worthy of Studio 54's heyday, and "What Comes Naturally" is the best big-rock-anthem about sex with a stranger since Free's "All Right Now." Gray's most bewitching moments come during the bluesy "silent desperation," when she wraps her smoldering torch-song vocals around Tom Cavanagh's fluid guitar lines. As for the pin-up girl image, you can take it or leave it: Gray's voice could still beguile you, even if she wew built like Big Momma Thornton.

Bio

Tom Cavanagh's resume reads like a diary of schizophrenic. His career has taken him to every end of the spectrum of music, and this is what makes him so diverse and perfect for any situation. He was the guitarist and main song writer for the mid ninties band Wardance whos singles placed above Nirvana at the height of Nirvana's popularity. While in Wardance Tom won the presses praise with his scorching guitar solos, beautifully crafted melodies and ability to shred yet not be over indulgent. After the success of Wardance, Tom released a cd with his instrumental band The Sons of Infinity. This cd received critical acclaim and worshipping reviews in magazines such as Guitar World, Guitar 2001, 20th Century Guitar, Guitara Y Basso, Fao Casa, The Music Paper and so many more. Even guitarists Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, David Chastian and Mike Keneally said wonderful things about Toms cd and performance. After several short but rewarding tours with The Sons of Infinity Tom took the position of bassist for the off broadway production of The Fab Four which he stayed for the entire year run of the show.
Tom then formed the band Rhino Caravan with famed singer Ed Ryan which released several records and extensivley toured for three years. However it was time for Tom to front his own band which led to the creation of Bent Pussycat, which was a culmination of rock music Tom grew up listening to. The band has released two records to date and are in the process of recording the third now.
Tom also served as guitarist for legendary bassist Jerry Jemmott of BB Kings band. When Jerry did a clinic tour to support his new book on playing bass he hired Tom Cavanagh to play guitar for the tour. It was here where Tom had a chance to hone his skills in playing jazz, funk and blues with Jerry who was the bassist for BB King for 17 years and Jaco Pastorious's teacher.
For the last three years Tom has also been playing the part of Brian May in the Musical Production of the music of Queen, Almost Queen. The band tours the world and has appeared at theaters, festivals and on television around the globe. . Recently Tom has performed as second guitar for Twisted Sister's Eddie Fingers Ojeda's solo band.
Tom Cavanagh's session work is far to extensive to recite here but his music is currently in use on The E Channel, Superstation TBS, the Oxygen Network, Fox Sports and more. His guitar work can be heard on over two hundred CD releases and over a dozen movies. He recently sang and orchestrated the backing vocals on the Baptized by Fire cd with Twisted Sister's Dee Snider and Mark Mendoza.
Tom Cavanagh's talent, skill and extensive experience makes him the most eligible for any project that may need a guitarist.
