Tom Melancon

BandAmericanaSinger/Songwriter

Tom Melancon (pronouced Mehlawnsun) plays two-fisted Americana, Alt-Country and Folk. He writes smart, melodic folk songs, plays guitar confidently and blows a mean blues harp. People who hear Tom often talk about his vocal similarity to Michael Stype of REM.

Biography

I saw Eliza Gilkeson at the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center in West Seattle on Saturday night. She's a great songwriter, guitar player and singer, but what really struck me was the confidence she carried with her. I have been playing music professionally for over 20 years, and, though I may not have the resume Eliza has, I believe in what I am doing, and people in the audience respond to that. A successful performance for me is playing my songs with conviction and heart, the rest I'll leave up to the Gods.

Lyrics

Dreamline Alligator (revisited)

Written By: Tom Melancon

Everything you know is wrong
Like you heard it in a song
Words are falling like your luck
Hit your head then try to duck
Everthing you know is wrong

Days you'd find him throwing paint
Nights he'd call his patron saint
In a voice both weak and strong
Daring you to sing along
Day's you'd find him throwing paint

You can hear the music richochet through this empty little town
Beat up fender and a microphone
Good Sam Michael's fallen down

And I guess that I'll be talking to you later
And I hope you find your dreamline alligator

You were only twenty nine
Tired of standing in a line
Wanting only to be in
Your fifteen minutes to begin

He was anything but sweet
Heaven help you miss a beat
Like it was a mortal sin
Mouthing words you can't let in

You can hear the music richochet through this empty little town
Beat up fender and a microphone
Good Sam Michael's fallen down

And I guess that I'll be talking to you later
And I hope you find your dreamline alligator

A one way trip your ego dominator
And I hope you find your drealine alligator

Your Little World

Written By: Tom Melancon

In your little world
You see what you choose
It's all black and white
There's no greens or blues
It's all tin soldiers marching off
With no good reason why
There's no alibi
In your little world

When you were a girl
He would not see
That you were a gem
Not a commodity
So you built a wall around yourself
That's twenty meters wide
Just so you can hide
In your little world

London bridge is falling down
Your king has lost his paper crown
Never to be found

Hate is a cancer
It feeds on fear
It gets in your heart
That's what I hear
Love came knockin on your door
But you weren't even home
So you're all alone
In your little world

London bridge is falling down
Your king has lost his paper crown
Never to be found
In your little world
In your little world
In your little world

Los Alamos Blues

Written By: Michael Clark

Started back in 1942
A safer world for me and you
Everytime I hear the news
I get the Los Alamos Blues

Stand back now and form a line
Put on your goggles,
you can see just fine
I've got x-ray vision,
I can see your spine
And you've got the Los Alamos Blues

Desert morning 1945
A bright red flash in the big blue sky
And I guess I'm lucky to be alive
To sing these Los Alamos Blues

Chorus
Saint Michael can you hear me now?
Shield me from evil
with your sword somehow

If we could make a few more of these,
The whole world would rest at peace
Just go ask the Japanese
They've got the Los Alamos Blues

Chorus

John Lennon wrote songs
in his time
Stevie Wonder,
even though he was blind
And what about Albert Einstein?
He wrote the Los Alamos Blues

Started out in 1943
A safer world for you and me
Everybody's got a right to be free
But I've got the Los Alamos Blues
Yeah I've got the Los Alamos Blues
I have the Los Alamos Blues
