Tommy Mora- “On a Rock n Roll Crusade”

In a world populated by artists stamped out in today’s clinical computerized music production systems, Tommy Mora, a southwest El Paso native, is a rarity. Rock music’s dynamic vigor-a concoction of driving guitar rhythms, insistent organ, a fat backbeat, superb vocals and colossal bass grooves is lovingly revived in the youthful persona of Tommy Mora. His infectiously heartfelt music is so infused with the spirit and verve of classic rock, funk, and blues. His latest release “Keep on Moving” will hit store shelves Feb. 2009 via the indie label Atomic Records. So what does his music represent? “That moment in your life when you feel larger than the sun, the feeling you get when you know you can achieve anything.” Mora says. “Singing songs about pain, love and happiness is my mission.” Although fans have been delighted with smashing songs like “You got me Running” or “Give Me Your Love” you can also hear his more sensual side on songs such as “Misery” or “Vive” written indirectly to his passing mother. "One day, words and melodies started coming to me really fast. I started writing about losing someone really close to me. He wrote the song "Vive" which means "live" in Spanish and "Misery". "I didn't know what I was writing about but somehow I just felt I had to get it out". His mother was diagnosed with cancer only months later. "I believe our lives are foreseen, we as humans can feel what's coming. We must always follow our instincts no matter what." Growing up in El Paso Texas, his passion for Latin culture can be heard on such songs such as "On My Way" and "Down to the Border". His father, an accomplished drummer and mentor fused his son's musical taste with classic records from artists such as The Beatles, Santana, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix and Jose Feliciano. "I remember the first time I heard "Black Magic Woman". The sound I heard from Carlos' guitar that day was a true revelation of what I wanted to do in my life, MUSIC. From that moment on I felt I was on a Rock n Roll crusade.” Now residing in Los Angeles, Tommy and his band have been pleasing enthusiastic audiences since January of 2002 with a show that captures the essence of his guitar skills and vocal talent. His exciting, high-energy shows and spiritually emotional material have gathered a devoted following and give him the ability to win-over and move audiences both in and outside of his genre. As a sideman he has backed up and recorded with artists such as Christina Milian, Soul Generation and performed on the Chicano mini-series “American Family”. He was also the musical director at the 2005 6th Annual Latin Grammy performance with Alejandro Fernandez. As an accomplished audio engineer he has worked with artists such as Prince, Jennifer Lopez and Al Green. With a drive and desire for more Tommy Mora is sure to go far not only in the LA/Texas scene but also on a much larger scale. With the momentum of his CD release this year plans for a national tour are already in place. I’m really exited to move forward and take my music to the highest level possible.” So whether your jamming to his record or are lucky enough to catch a live performance, Tommy Mora’s music will take you wherever you want to go and to all the places he's been.
