Biography

Hi, my name's Tom Nicholas and I'm a Folk/Acoustic musician from Crafthole, Cornwall. I started playing solo during mid-2009, having played in a few bands, with a set full of all my favorite covers. A lot of gigging, writing and rewriting ensued until I got where I am today, just finishing off my first EP; Man and His Music.
I draw influence from all over the place both musically and non musically. My favourite artists are Bruce Springsteen, Billy Bragg and Bob Dylan whose influence can be heard throughout my music.
The first writing I did of note was in late 2009/early 2010 when I wrote a number of songs one of which, 'Chasing Melody' (which can still be heard on the music tab) I entered into the UK International Songwriting Competition and to which it was awarded a Commended Entry Certificate and a score of 5, meaning it was considered for entry into the quarter finals.
After playing loads of festivals this summer I've had the chance to try stuff out and gig songs to see whether they stand the test of time. The 5 tracks that I'll be including on my EP draw on much folkier influences and make heavy use of the mandolin that I've taken to often playing at gigs, leading to some interesting covers. My EP, titled 'Man and His Music' will be out very soon and will be available on iTunes as well as from this website and from me at gigs as a physical CD.

Lyrics

Last Plane Out of Shangri La

Written By: Tom Nicholas

Someone with a younger mind
might've thought what I now think much sooner,
and someone who was on your side
might not have gone and backed you as the looser,
the girl who finds it hard to talk
shouts your name whenever you look through her,
cause she knows that somewhere there's a place
where you love her and she sings Aleilujah.

Your on the last plane out of Shangri La,
Where the papers said we went too far,
And the streets of gold they ran with blood and wine,
Where you can barely hear the drums at all,
and the drums you hear are the drums of war,
now man and his music all combine.

Man and his music have been making up and breaking up forever,
It's days like these and melodies I spend my life just trying to put together,
There's a gap in the story book forgets to say that none lives forever,
Well maybe all we needed was a postcard from home or a letter.

Your on the last plane out of Shangri La,
Where the papers said we went too far,
And the streets of gold they ran with blood and wine,
Where you can barely hear the drums at all,
and the drums you hear are the drums of war,
now man and his music all combine.

Your on the last plane out of Shangri La,
Where the papers said we went too far,
And the streets of gold they ran with blood and wine,
Where you can barely hear the drums at all,
and the drums you hear are the drums of war,
now man and his music all combine.
