"Tomorrow We Radio Interview"

Hello there! Could you start by telling us your name and role in the band?

Hey hey! My name is Lee Raisbeck and I play the electric guitar.

For those outside of the York area that might not have heard Tomorrow We Radio yet, could you tell us a little bit about your sound and influences?

Well when pushed I tell people were like Take That mixed with Pantera, but if I wasn’t being a dick I’d say we sound like Hundred Reasons, Kids in Glass Houses and a smidge of Funeral For A Friend in there.

You’ve played with some pretty sweet bands over the last year or so, including Random Hand, Dave McPherson, Fei Comodo and Exit Ten. Which have been your favourite band to play with and why?

Tough question…Exit Ten and Fei Comodo were at the same time and they said really nice things about us so that was really good. Plus i got in for free. Cashback.

In October you performed with Robb Blake of legendary UK punk band Whitmore, collaborating for a couple of songs. What was it like playing with someone whose music you’ve been a fan of for so long?

That was probably the single most awesome part of our year, and it was at ShatterFest so it was doubley wicked. Me and Chris used to be outrageously into Whitmore, I think at one point we used to compare fantasy Whitmore setlists. In fact seeing them play at old Fibbers started my ‘Shiit I wanna be in a band’ attitude when I was 13. It was just totally surreal, plus, we did Jonny Bells which Robb says Whitmore never played live cos its fuck hard! Proud! He’s a great dude, and we look forward to sinking some beers with him in January when he’s back down.

You’re about to release a new single, Cameron, followed by a UK tour to promote the release. Tell us a little bit about why you chose that song above any of your other songs to release as a single?

Quick answer is it was the first song the new line up got together that worked really well and that people are really into live. When people ask me what my band are like I point to it. It has a section at the end that I call ‘the mid afternoon festival wall of death anthem’ so look out for that! Check it out on iTunes when its out!

You’ll be playing some new towns and cities on tour that you’ve never been before, what are you most looking forward to about getting out there?

I get really nervous before gigs, especially in new areas, so I’m actually most looking forward to a week of bantering with my mates in a van. Meeting new people and having a potter around places that I’d normally have no business in is fun, something ridiculous happens all the time.

You’re kicking off the tour with a hometown show, who have you got on the line-up?

Hell yes we are! We managed to get Kings of Wishful Thinking on the line up who’re one of my favourite bands on the scene. Stonewater who can probably boast they have one of the best singers around and our new mates Gratitude from Hull who are going to rock the shop large portion. It’s gonna be a sick night so come down, not to be missed, one night only, etc!

There are some great bands in York, where you’re based, which York bands would you recommend people check out?

The Fear are a band that everyone should be enjoying. Just got signed and will have an album out soon so good for them. River City Ransom are also really good, hopefully we’ll finally get some gigs together. There are loads! The york scene is good!

While there are loads of brilliant bands in York, it can be quite an inclusive scene, and people are seemingly unwilling to travel from other cities to watch bands there. Do you find being in a city with quite a small music scene restrictive at all?

Well originally we came from Darlington, we thought York was gonna be miles better…people need to just get out of the house and into a gig venue more. But it’s really up to us bands on the scene to give them a reason to!

Finally, what message would you like to send out to anyone checking out this interview?

Please buy our things, I’m saving to go to wrestling school. Also, next time you can’t be arsed to go to a gig – punch yourself in the face, then go to it. You will have a good time! - Shattered Glass Media

"Live Review"

More used to seeing Tomorrow We Radio in their heavier, full-band guise, I’d recently been lucky enough to hear frontman Chris Laycock performing a solo acoustic act, taking some TWR material along with him. As a result I was most looking forward to hearing what the guys came up with as a full acoustic band.

As usual, TWR are not a band for whom the word “disappointment” even registers. The addition of some form of melodica to their acoustic line-up was most welcome, and added something a little special to the proceedings. Opener “Organs”, with Chris’s solo vocal rant into the crowd, and “Tokyo”, were stand-out favourites for me on the evening, with Lee, James, Robson and Ollie leaving Chris alone on stage perform a moving rendition of crowd-pleaser “Dead Streets” one of my favourite parts of the evening. Tomorrow We Radio proved once again that, in any form, they can pull out all the stops and make you listen.

Soon to be releasing single “Cameron” on Feb 13th 2012, you can check out TWR at http://tomorrowweradio.bandcamp.com, or on their upcoming UK tour. - Shattered Glass Media

"REVIEW: Tomorrow We Radio - Cameron"

Coming out of the growing York music scene arguably kick-started by Asking Alexandria over the past two years, Tomorrow We Radio deal in a bouncy hard-edged pop-punk that's not dissimilar to pre-2011 Four Year Strong and this is well-represented in new single Cameron.

It's nothing we haven't heard before but there's a certain likeability and potential in their stop-starting dynamics and emotively rasping vocals that don't feel cookie-cutter and instead more an intriguing foundation that could well be built on. The summery rhythms and honest lyrics that channel the song echo heyday Taking Back Sunday which is always something worthy of attention while nods are also given to New Found Glory and You Me At Six, the song's swirling and soaring breakdown being particularly striking.

The fact that this is the first of three singles to be released in 2012 gives grounding to their potential and suggests that if they continue to work hard they could be an interesting proposition. - RoomThirteen
