A tribute to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Tom Petty has been one of the most prolific singer songwriters of our time; he has been penning hits with the Heartbreakers since the 1970’s.

Damn the Torpedoes is an amalgamation of music professionals that has come together to perform the music of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Each member of the Torpedoes can lay claim to an influence in his musical career by Mr. Petty and his band.

Mike Rawluk and David Doyle met while playing in a local blues project where the idea for a Tom Petty tribute act was born. Knowing that competition was stiff in the tribute act genre, Mike and David saw the need to set Damn the Torpedoes apart. The idea was to create a tribute act that drew upon the influences of modern guitar rock, which Mr. Petty had helped to inspire. Their intent was to develop a more striped down approach to the most familiar hits from The Heartbreakers catalog.

After recruiting lead guitarist Willie Powell, and vocalist and rhythm guitarist Grant Walker, the Torpedoes had come together. Soon after their formation, the Torpedoes played their first gig and were an instant success; with sold out crowds, and an overwhelming response, the Torpedoes have quickly gained momentum in the San Diego scene.

In 2009 the Torpedoes seek to build upon early success by expanding their local fan base and reaching out to the entire Southwestern United States. In addition to playing regional nightclubs, the Torpedoes plan to perform at casinos, festivals, and corporate events.
