Tom Stahl used to drive around in a truck full of paint saying, "Would you like paddles and strainers with that?" One day, he hurt his back. He went to the doctor and said, "Doctor! Doctor! It hurts when I do that." The doctor said, “Don’t do that." Tom Stahl then started writing songs.

Biography

In October of 94' Tom Stahl had back surgery and that forced him to quit his truck-driving career. He had a degree in Communications, but had written a song or two, and with the support (constant urging) of his wife Lou, decided to continue in that direction. Tom picked up his guitar and turned to music. In early 1995 he went to an open mike at Nietzsche's in Buffalo NY with four original songs. The organizer of the open mike, Michael Meldrum, asked Tom to come back and do a showcase in March 1995. In the Spring of that same year, he brought his best tunes out on a debut cassette entitled "I Wanna Be Ignorant". Now there's a CD bearing the same name, the same tunes and a generous helping of extra tracks to go with them. The ball started rolling from there. In 1996, Tom came out with his second CD, entitled "The Song is the Thing". Over the next three years, Tom released two more original CDs entitled "Hang On” and “Shut Up and Smell the Coffee". In 2000, Tom formed the band and they immediately began to collaborate and work on their first CD together. The CD was entitled "Nothing", and was released in 2001. In May 2002 they released, "At The Tralf" (as Tom so eloquently put it “just in time for Mother’s Day”), a set of live recordings from their December 2001 concert. Tom as a solo artist and with his band mates have opened for such acts as Joan Osborne, Sara Craig, Moxy Fruvos, Tom Cochrane, David Wilcox & Don McLean. Also, Tom and the Dangerfileds represented the “Sound of Buffalo” for the television show “Food Nation” with Bobby Flay. They are sure to be coming to a venue near you soon! Six CDs later and a few more grey hairs (at least for some of the band members) the band has just released CD number 7, “Most Town.” The new CD features the unique sound of the Dangerfields, which no two people can describe the same way. They have been labeled as R&B, folk, rock, pop, rockabilly, and country. We call it "Dangerfield-esque". What everyone DOES agree upon is that this is some of the best songwriting you are likely to hear east of Eden.

California

CALIFORNIA

It seems like only yesterday, I wasted time, wasted away, I hit the west coast two months out of school. Well life was soft and we drank hard, we’d crawl down Hollywood Boulevard, Saturday meant Stoli’s by the pool. All that sunshine on the brain, enough to drive a boy insane, easy to lose sight of why you came.

A mohawked girl with train-track arms, she squawked how life on daddy’s farm was not the life that she was meant to live, a grand deluded whacked out scheme, she found the town of broken dreams had taken all that she had had to give. All that sunshine on the brain, not enough to dull the pain and some they never get back home again.

Refrain
California here I come, right back where I started dumb, I’m not much smarter than the day I left. I’m going back to California, dressed in black, I’m going to mourn the fact I never lived in California when I did.

Far away and long ago, I shuffled off from Buffalo, a fearless deed for such a fearful lad. Now yesteryear’s like yesterday, I rue the time I threw away and love the time I thought I never had. All that sunshine on the brain, paradise was lost in vain, still I knew I’d get back there again.

Refrain
California here I come, right back where I started dumb, I’m not much smarter than the day I left. I going back to California, dressed in black, I’m going to mourn the fact I never lived in California when I did

Nice Being God

Written By: Tom Stahl

NICE BEING GOD

Must be nice being God, I guess you ought to know, you must take it in stride with a small sense of pride knowing you run the show,
Whose idea was the trees, that’s yours obviously, how the sun always sets every day in the west is just genius to me, I’d just like to express how I’m really impressed and I just got to say must be nice being God, I guess, some days

.So you give and you take, and you take and you give, do you roll off your cloud, wrap yourself in shroud and decide who will live, What’s with all the disease, and the suffering I see, if it’s part of some plan that I don’t understand please explain it to me, I’m just trying to make sense of your omnipotence and it brings me to say,

Refrain
Must be nice being God, knowing your very worst day, that everything that’s happening is happening your way, must be nice being God, I guess, some days. You alone are the holy one, you alone are Lord, tell the truth are we only here because sometimes you’re bored.

Must be nice playing God, there’s some people who do, they just crawl out of bed, slap a cross on their head then they think that they’re you, Well they sit and they judge, you know they’ll never budge, every word they mistook from your little black book helps them cling to their grudge, they’re just so self-obsessed, that you must get depressed, but I still got to say,

Refrain
Must be nice being God, knowing your very worst day, that everything that’s happening is happening your way, must be nice being God, I guess, some days. You alone are the holy one, you alone are Lord, tell the truth are we only here because sometimes you’re bored

I Wanna Be Ignorant

Written By: Tom Stahl

I WANNA BE IGNORANT

My whole world fit in three city blocks, time stood still, there was no need for clocks, mom was always in the kitchen, dad was hard at work or fixing something, I wish that I could go back there again.

Up and down and around we’d go, where we’d end up no one could know, days that used to last forever turned to years that never passed again, I wish that I could go back there again.

Refrain
I wanna go back again, when kids believed in superman and AIDS was just a diet plan oh life was so much simpler then. I wanna be ignorant, I wanna love my government , I wanna know what Jesus meant when he said love your fellow man, I wanna be ignorant.

I know less than I did before, gone are days when I thought I knew the score, truth I used to take for granted turned to views so antiquated somehow, I wish that I could know the truth again.

Refrain
I wanna go back again when kids believed in superman and AIDS was just a diet plan oh life was so much simpler then, I wanna be ignorant, I wanna love my government, I wanna live in bliss again, I wanna know everything, I wanna be ignorant.
My whole world fit in three city blocks, time stood still
