"Tone Jones Doesn’t Let Today’s Oversaturated Market Keep His Music At The Bottom"

Skilly: Where did this all start? Tell us about your journey in the entertainment business.
Tone Jones: It all started when I was about 8. I heard Lauryn Hill for the first time, her voice was rhythmic and her songs love-filled. I told myself I wanted to do the same thing, make music that the people can feel. From there I started writing poetry, then slowly transitioned into the poetry in motion. And that is how we made it here.

What would be your biggest piece of advice for the young kids out there trying to do what you do?
Biggest advice I would have to give any young kids out there is to stay consistent. Quality before quantity.

What are some of the hardest challenges and tasks in your position?
Some of the most difficult tasks would be getting the music out. Everyone wants good music, but now we have to sift through all of the crap and one hit wonders. No one wants real rap anymore.

We all know the entertainment business is very tough, but what do you find is the best way to promote and advertise your music?
Blogs, blogs, blogs. Also need to make sure your personal social media is booming as well. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr – keep it booming.

Tell us about your city. How are the artists and the fans?
The city is just like any small city. Love, hate, and everybody trying to make it out. The fans here, they roll with you. They become your family. If the family aren’t your fans, who do you have?

Where do you see yourself a year from today?
A year from today I will have dropped an album and traveling a little more doing more shows. I am actually working on a tour for spring 2017. So stay tuned.

Who and what were your biggest inspirations? Who do you look up to in today’s world?
One of my biggest inspirations would have to be my mother. She always had a vision, low and behold she saw it out.

How do you feel about the music coming out today? Do you like it?
Music today is nothing short of interesting, but everything changes. Do I like it? Some of it is for me, some of it isn’t. I rock with it, if not I keep it rolling. - Skilly Magazine
