Bio
Tone & Niche (tone & Neesh) a band out of Detroit, MI. is made up of four musicians. Fronting the band is singer/songwriter Anthony Retka and violinist Nicole Varga. Drums and Bass back the duo.
Tone and Niche perform an eclectic mix of rock, pop, singer/songwriter, and folk music inspired by performers like The Beatles, Bob Dylan and Duke Ellington to the more modern writers such as Ron Sexsmith, Mike Viola and Joe Pernice.
The group has spent the last year touring in support of their CD - On The Streets Of. They have shared the bill with national recording artists including: Martha Wainwright, Mike Errico and Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers.
Tone & Niche also spent the last year playing a bunch of musical festivals from the Motor City Music Conference and the Metro Times Blowout to Buffalo, NY and the Oswego harbor fest in upstate New York.
Anthony Retka was born in Detroit, MI. and grew up north of Detroit in Mount Clemens. Anthony has been writing songs for a number of years. Now 25, he is studying music, writing, and performance at Macomb Community College and has recieved his Associate of Arts. He now plans to school at Wayne State for his BA. Anthony hopes to continue writing and recording music for a long time to come.
Nicole Varga was born in Detroit, MI. and grew up in Saint Clair Shores, Mi. At the age of 22, she received a Bachelor of Music from Wayne State University. Nicole has been playing the violin for 18 years and has spent the last 5 years playing music with Anthony and hopes to continue playing music for a long time to come as well.
The band's influences stem from a variety of musical performers such as The Beatles, Bob Dylan and The Squirrel Nut Zippers to Billie Holiday, Radiohead and Duke Ellington.
