Bio

Who is Tone Styles? Why is he so often mentioned when there is discussion about Chicago’s hottest rappers? Those familiar with his music would probably flash a quick smile and respond by asking “Have you heard him?” The simple truth is that Tone Styles is an exceptional artist and producer with the talent and drive to take his career to the next level. He has won multiple contests, received praise by local media, music critics and others in the industry and is more than ready to make his mark at a national and international level following other successful Chicagoans like Twista, Lupe Fiasco and Kanye West.

Tone Styles was born Antonio Johnson on August 27, 1985 in Chicago, Illinois. At an early age, Tone developed a fascination and passion for music. He often pursued opportunities to be the center of attention and could be found performing his lyrical rendition of songs by artists like Jay-Z, Twista and Common or participating in freestyle sessions with other rappers. Tone styles loved to perform and growing up in a family that exposed him to music genres like classical, jazz, gospel and Reggae, he developed a great ear for music. Tone’s creative nature and interest in music composition led him to save money for several months and purchase a keyboard for his 16th birthday. Before he reached 19, his growing reputation as a gifted music producer was in full swing on Chicago’s west side. Tone’s popularity catapulted after making beats for a number of local heavy hitters and offers from area indie labels and production companies soon followed. Tone kept it a family affair deciding to partner with his cousin, whom had founded an independent label of his own. This partnership would prove to be fruitful. Tone Styles' reputation experienced more growth but this time more so for being a crafty word-slinger.

In 2007, Tone Styles entered a contest for Chicago’s best up and coming artist and he dominated the competition. He was selected as the opening act for Screamfest by the 107.5 WGCI’s listening audience. After opening for some of the biggest names in urban music, he was able to make a number of connections with artists like T.I. who later requested that tone open 3 additional shows for him. Artists are always looking for the best act(s) to set the tone (no pun intended) for their shows. Tone Styles has honored opening act requests of many promoters and/or headlining artists whom had show dates in the Chicagoland area. Tone’s determination, personality and skills as an artist has led to some great performance opportunities like opening for artist such as Johnny P, Danny Boy, Twista, Three Piece, Ciara, Scarface, Young Joc, Lloyd, Lil' Wayne, Common and Nelly.

This year Tone’s career has experienced more positive changes as he continues to move forward more focused than ever to take his place amongst hip hop's elite. This past February, he signed with indie label, Epsilon Entertainment Group LLC, and has begun recording out of Epsilon/B&M recording studios. The studio has been a preferred recording spot for Chi-town artists Do or Die, Crucial Conflict, Marzette Griffin and countless local acts. Tone is currently working on his debut album and has already completed two upcoming singles, “I’m Fresh” and “My City”. The singles are due to be released this Fall.
